Pi 2 pulsations: High latitude results

Planetary and Space Science, 1982
Abstract A review of recent experimental results from studies of high latitude Pi 2 pulsations indicates that these pulsations are fundamentally related to the initiation of the auroral breakup and substorm. At high latitudes, the Pi 2's show their peak intensities in the region where the breakup begins and appear to remain in this region after the ...

Concerning the structure of Pi 2 pulsations

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1985
We look at some simple theoretical considerations relevant to the origin of Pi 2 geomagnetic pulsations observed on the ground with the onset of geomagnetic activity. Using a basic model, we examine how subsidiary current flows are created by auroral ionospheric conductivity enhancements in the electrojet regions.

On the occurrence of Pi 2 micropulsations

Planetary and Space Science, 1973
Abstract Related investigations concerning the source and occurrence of Pi 2 micropulsations indicate that (1) Pi 2 peak occurrence is near 2230 LMT, before (after) which the initial disturbance vector orientation is primarily northeast (northwest) in the northern hemisphere; (2) peak occurrence is near 2330 (2030) LMT during intervals of low ...

Related investigations of pi 2 micropulsations

2011
Related investigations of irregular, nighttime, type Pi 2 micropulsations were undertaken with regards to the source and occurrence of these geomagnetic fluctuations. In particular, the local times of Pi 2's recorded by a global network of stations, during 1964, were determined.

Solar cycle effects on geomagnetic Pi 2 pulsations

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1968
Rapid-run magnetograms of more than 6000 Pi 2 events generally associated with bay disturbances observed at Onagawa, Japan, and Fredericksburg, Virginia, during the years from 1956 through 1966 were analyzed to search for solar cycle effects. Yearly occurrence frequency of the Pi 2's including not only large amplitudes but also medium and small ones ...
