Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Values of multiparametric and biparametric MRI in diagnosing clinically significant prostate cancer: a multivariate analysis

open access: yesBMC Urology
Background To investigate the value of semi-quantitative and quantitative parameters (PI-RADS score, T2WI score, ADC, Ktrans, and Kep) based on multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) or biparametric MRI (bpMRI) combined with prostate specific antigen density (PSAD)

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Glymphatic dysfunction impairs cognitive function via disrupted white matter network efficiency in primary insomnia: A DTI-ALPS mediation study

open access: yesBrain Research Bulletin
Background: Primary insomnia (PI) is increasingly recognized as a brain network disorder associated with cognitive impairment. Emerging evidence suggests that glymphatic system dysfunction may underlie these deficits by impairing brain clearance ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Bound for vertex PI index in terms of simple graph parameters

open access: yes, 2013
The vertex PI index is a distance-based molecular structure descriptor, that recently found numerous chemical applications. In this letter we obtain a lower bound on the vertex PI index of a connected graph in terms of number of vertices, edges, pendent ...

Changes in ponderal index and body mass index across childhood and their associations with fat mass and cardiovascular risk factors at age 15 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Little is known about whether associations between childhood adiposity and later adverse cardiovascular health outcomes are driven by tracking of overweight from childhood to adulthood and/or by vascular and metabolic changes from childhood ...

Association Between DMFT Index, Dental Plaque, and Pre‐eclampsia in Pregnant Women: A Case–Control Study

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Dental Research
Objectives This study investigates the association between Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMFT) Index, dental plaque (assessed via Plaque Index [PI]), and pre‐eclampsia in pregnant women.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.
