Interstellar pickup ions in the solar wind
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1999Interstellar pickup protons strongly influence the properties of the outer heliosphere and their effects scale with the density of inflowing hydrogen at the termination shock. In order to estimate this quantity from available measurements of the pickup protons, we need to understand the observed structure and transport of these ion distributions.

A dispersive analysis of bispherical pickup ion distributions
Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1996We investigate the properties of a bispherical shell distribution of pickup ions when dispersion of the resonant waves is taken into account. We also extend the method of Johnstone et al. [1991] and Huddleston and Johnstone [1992] for determining the spectra of the quasi‐linear self‐generated waves to include dispersion.

Acceleration of pickup ions at quasi-stationary shocks
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2007Observations of omnipresent suprathermal power law tails, with the unique spectral index of −5, on the velocity distributions of solar wind and pickup ions raise important questions and have far reaching consequences. The obvious question of how these tails are formed during quiet times, when no shocks are present, was previously addressed and is ...

Evolution of interstellar pickup ions in the solar wind
Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1987A model is constructed for the evolution of an interstellar pickup ion distribution in the solar wind. The model assumes that the ions are immediately isotropized at ionization and follows the subsequent development of the distribution function as the particles are convected with the solar wind.

Pickup Ion Acceleration at the Termination Shock and in the Heliosheath
Space Science Reviews, 2008We discuss pickup ion acceleration and transport near the solar wind termination shock from the perspective of their spectral, spatial, and pitch-angle distributions. Our study is performed in the framework of a recently developed anisotropic transport model based on a Legendre polynomial expansion technique.
