Performance of a Bluetooth piconet in the presence of IEEE 802.11 WLANs
The 13th IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications, 2003Bluetooth is a digital wireless data transmission standard in the 2.4 GHz ISM band aimed at providing a short range wireless link between laptops, cellular phones and other devices. The IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs) also operate in this frequency band.

Algorithm for ad-hoc piconet topology initialization
2003 IEEE 58th Vehicular Technology Conference. VTC 2003-Fall (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37484), 2003This paper deals with piconet topology issues in IEEE802.15.3 high rate wireless personal area network standard. These issues preventing two devices to establish a connection come from the coexistence of two conflicting concepts: ad-hoc networking and centralized coordination.

Study of Piconet Auto-Configuration for WPAN
Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, 2005If the PNC is shutting down or wants to leave the WPAN, it uses the handover process to give control to another device in the piconet. However when the PNC is selected, only the device capability information is checked in the WPAN standard specification and no detail criteria is described.
