Global variability of phytoplankton functional types from space: assessment via the particle size distribution [PDF]
A new method of retrieving the parameters of a power-law particle size distribution (PSD) from ocean color remote sensing data was used to assess the global distribution and dynamics of phytoplankton functional types (PFT's).

Annual Variability in Marine Particulate Trace Elements During the Hawaii Aerosol Time‐Series
Abstract The Hawaii Aerosol Time‐Series (HATS) was a coordinated effort to simultaneously monitor atmospheric and water column dust dynamics in the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. Throughout 2022 and 2023, HATS measured the composition of water column particles and made complementary measurements of aerosol chemistry and deposition fluxes.

Efecto tóxico del cobre en poblaciones naturales de picoplancton aisladas, procedentes de distintas localizaciónes geográficas [PDF]
9 páginas, 9 figuras, 2 tablas.[EN] In an approach to understand more about copper toxicity effects on marine microalgae, 72-h growth inhibition toxicity tests were followed on natural picophytoplanktonic populations belonging to different coastal and ...

Delineating Marine Planktonic Habitats Through the Biogeochemical‐Argo Array Data
Abstract Phytoplankton play a crucial role in regulating marine biogeochemical pathways but studying their spatial and temporal dynamics often requires extensive and laborious oceanographic expeditions. Here, we report a novel use of Biogeochemical‐Argo data to delineate planktonic habitats in the Tropical North Atlantic Ocean (TNA).

Abstract Increasing our knowledge about the structure and metabolism of the microbial plankton community in coastal upwelling systems is essential for efficiently managing the resources of these highly productive ecosystems. Here we explore seasonal variations of this community in the NW Iberian coastal upwelling system by measuring variables informing

Vitamin B1 and B12 uptake and cycling by plankton communities in coastal ecosystems
While vitamin B12 has recently been shown to co-limit the growth of coastal phytoplankton assemblages, the cycling of B-vitamins in coastal ecosystems is poorly understood as planktonic uptake rates of vitamins B1 and B12 have never been quantified in ...

Extreme wildfire conditions shift coastal phytoplankton community structure in California
Abstract Extreme wildfires have increased in frequency and intensity globally, particularly in the Western United States. Here we examine how the 2020 Lightning Complex Fires in California influenced coastal phytoplankton communities using monitoring network data products in the Monterey Bay, the ocean region closest to this large fire.

Free-living protozoa in two unchlorinated drinking water supplies identified by phylogenic analysis of 18S rRNA gene sequences [PDF]
Free-living protozoan communities in water supplies may include hosts for Legionella pneumophila and other undesired bacteria and also pathogens. This study aimed at identifying free-living protozoa in two unchlorinated groundwater supplies using ...
