We tried to prevent nonspecific nuclear staining (NS-NS) of picrosirius red (PSR) staining by treating the specimens with one of the heteropoly acids phosphotungstic acid (PTA). We analyzed a total of 35 cases of non-cancerous liver tissue for fibrosis and NS-NS under PSR-alone, phosphomolybdic acid (PMA)-pretreated PSR (PMA + PSR), or PTA-pretreated ...

A key criterion in the diagnosis of thyroid follicular carcinoma is capsular invasion, but invasion cannot always be demonstrated histologically. Since invasion is likely to evoke reactions in the capsular collagen, we examined the effects of invasion on capsular collagen with the picrosirius orange-red (PSR) staining technique for collagen.

The central odontogenic fibroma (COF) is an uncommon odontogenic tumor in which the microscopic appearance is similar to that of the hyperplastic dental follicle (HDF). Distinction between these lesions is based mainly on their clinical and radiologic features.

Method for Picrosirius Red-Polarization Detection of Collagen Fibers in Tissue Sections
2017The extracellular matrix is critical in guiding cell behavior in normal and pathologic tissues, particularly in cancers and fibrosis. Highlighting the organization (or disorganization) of a collagen-containing matrix can be very useful for understanding or grading pathophysiological conditions. The picrosirius red stain (also called "Sirius red" stain)

Background: The extracellular matrix (ECM) performs a very important function in growth regulation, tissue differentiation and organization. Diseases of pulp are seen in all ages. Collagen, the main macromolecule of dental pulp, varies in its number, thickness and distribution with age.

Detection of collagens in hypertrophic scars by picrosirius polarization method.
Di 1 jun yi da xue xue bao = Academic journal of the first medical college of PLA, 2002To find a simple method to detect the collagens in human hypertrophic scars. The content and distribution of collagen in human hypertrophic scars were observed with both conventional light and polarization microscopy combined with image analysis of hypertrophic scar sections stained with picrosiriusred.Polarization microscopy revealed closely packed ...

The Picrosirius-polarization method has been indicated as a selective histochemical stain for collagen detection in tissue sections. This method can also be of value for studying collagen degradation given that, under polarized light, collagen displays birefringence due to its molecular order.

The collagen in the walls of 15 keratocysts was studied histochemically by staining sections with picrosirius red and examining them with polarizing microscopy. This was compared to 15 cases of dentigerous cyst and 15 cases of radicular cyst. Polarization colours of the collagen fibres were recorded according to their width.
