Intracranial Melanotic Schwannomas: Rare and Distinctive Tumors to Know Due to their Risk of Recurrence and Metastases

open access: yesJournal of the Belgian Society of Radiology, 2018
Melanotic schwannomas are rare nerve sheath tumors that differentiate themselves from classical schwannomas by harboring melanin-producing cells. Intracranial localizations are uncommon, especially on the Gasserian ganglion.

Deciphering the Role of Cancer Stem Cells in Breast Cancer Brain Colonization Using a Novel Patient‐Derived Model

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that stem‐like cells isolated from breast cancer brain metastases drive the spread and growth of tumors in the brain. Among them, a highly adhesive subgroup initiates metastasis and resists many drugs. By closely reflecting patient tumors, these models help identify new targets and improve the development of effective treatments ...

The origin and effect of small RNA signaling in plants

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2012
Given their sessile condition, land plants need to integrate environmental cues rapidly and send signal throughout the organism to modify their metabolism accordingly. Small RNA (sRNA) molecules are among the messengers that plant cells use to carry such

Open or arthroscopic Latarjet? Prospective analysis of the clinical results

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2021
Objectives: The arthroscopic bone block procedure in the treatment of anterior shoulder instabilities is now a validated technique. Nevertheless, few studies have compared the clinical results of this technique to the conventional Latarjet procedure ...

Atmospheric aerosols at the Pierre Auger Observatory and environmental implications

open access: yes, 2012
The Pierre Auger Observatory detects the highest energy cosmic rays. Calorimetric measurements of extensive air showers induced by cosmic rays are performed with a fluorescence detector.

Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Particles studies from space: super-EUSO, a possible next-generation experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
After the Pierre Auger Observatory, it is likely that space-based experiments might be required for next-generation studies of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Particles.

Resolving the Structural Duality of Graphene Grain Boundaries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Cantilever ncAFM resolves the atomic structure of grain boundaries in graphene, revealing coexisting stable and metastable types. Both contain pentagon/heptagon defects, but metastable GBs show irregular geometries. Modeling shows metastable GBs form under compression, exhibiting vertical corrugation, while stable GBs are flat.

Cortical interneurons migrating on a pure substrate of N-cadherin exhibit fast synchronous centrosomal and nuclear movements and reduced ciliogenesis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2015
The embryonic development of the cortex involves a phase of long distance migration of interneurons born in the basal telencephalon. Interneurons first migrate tangentially and then reorient their trajectories radially to enter the developing cortex.

Nanomaterial Integration at Liquid–Liquid Interfaces for Green Catalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Functional nanomaterials assembled at liquid–liquid interfaces create dual‐role platforms serving as emulsion stabilizers and catalytic sites, offering enhanced reaction kinetics with improved catalyst recovery and recyclability. This review examines design strategies, structure‐performance relationships, and industrial implementation prospects of ...
