Piezoelectricity in the Intervertebral disc
Lower back pain is a major global health challenge that can often be caused by degeneration of the Intervertebral Disc (IVD). While IVD biomechanics are a key factor in the degenerative cycle, many mechanotransduction pathways remain unknown, in particular the electro-mechanical coupling in the loaded tissue. However, despite evidence for a role in the

Introduction to piezoelectricity and electrospun piezoelectric materials and devices [PDF]
Piezoelectric materials are increasingly being used in a wide range of applications. Single crystals, ceramics and polymers are all being used sensors, actuators and energyharvesting applications. Among the most used piezoelectric materials are lead zirconate titanate (PZT) and barium titanate (BaTiO3) ceramics and the polymer poly(vinylidene fluoride)

The influence of Bi content on dielectric properties of Bi4–xTi3O12–1.5x ceramics [PDF]
A kind of lead-free dielectric materials, such as the bismuth layered perovskite-type structure of Bi4–xTi3O12–1.5x (x=0.04,0.02,0,–0.02,–0.04), was prepared by the conventional solid-state method at 800∘C and sintered at 1100∘C.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
