Active multilayer mirrors for reflectance tuning at extreme ultraviolet (EUV) wavelengths [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We propose an active multilayer mirror structure for EUV wavelengths which can be adjusted to compensate for reflectance changes. The multilayer structure tunes the reflectance via an integrated piezoelectric layer that can change its dimension due to an

Piezoelectric Charge Coefficient of Halide Perovskites

open access: yesMaterials
Halide perovskites are an emerging family of piezoelectric and ferroelectric materials. These materials can exist in bulk, single-crystal, and thin-film forms. In this article, we review the piezoelectric charge coefficient (dij) of single crystals, thin films, and dimension-tuned halide perovskites based on different measurement methods.

Synchrotron Radiation for Quantum Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Materials and interfaces underpin quantum technologies, with synchrotron and FEL methods key to understanding and optimizing them. Advances span superconducting and semiconducting qubits, 2D materials, and topological systems, where strain, defects, and interfaces govern performance.

Ultra-high energy harvester performance in KNN-based textured piezoceramics via multiscale reconfiguration design

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics
The lower electromechanical performance of lead-free piezoelectric materials remains a critical bottleneck impeding their ability to replace lead-based materials in energy harvesting.

Pentagonal 2D Altermagnets: Material Screening and Altermagnetic Tunneling Junction Device Application

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
From a database of 170 pentagonal 2D materials, 4 candidates exhibiting altermagnetic ordering are screened. Furthermore, the spin‐splitting and unconventional boundary states in the pentagonal 2D altermagnetic monolayer MnS2 are investigated. A MnS2‐based altermagnetic tunneling junction is designed and, through ab initio quantum transport simulations,

Understanding and tuning negative longitudinal piezoelectricity in hafnia

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials
Most piezoelectric materials exhibit a positive longitudinal piezoelectric effect (PLPE), while a negative longitudinal piezoelectric effect (NLPE) is rarely reported or paid much attention.

Study of orientation effect on nanoscale polarization in BaTiO3 thin films using piezoresponse force microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We have investigated the effect of texture on in-plane (IPP) and out- of plane (OPP) polarizations of pulsed-laser-deposited BaTiO3 thin films grown on Pt and La0.5Sr0.5CoO3 (LSCO) buffered Pt electrodes.

Miniature Nanomesh Mechano‐Acoustic Sensor with Wide Linear Dynamic Range, Broad Bandwidth, and Flat Frequency Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A miniaturized mechano‐acoustic sensor is developed using an electrospun PVDF nanomesh as the diaphragm in a capacitive sensor structure. Unlike conventional nanomesh‐based sensors, it achieves high linear sensitivity, a broad and flat frequency response, and a compact form factor.
