Analysis and test of a piezoelectric deformable mirror
SPIE Proceedings, 2010Adaptive optics is concerned with correcting a distorted wavefront by introducing a counter aberration into an element of the optical system, it use widely in astronomy and there are also applications in microscopy, the writing of 3D optical bit memory and photo-fabrication now.

Single Crystal Piezoelectric Actuators for Advanced Deformable Mirrors
Aerospace, 2004In this paper, single crystal piezoelectric actuators are developed and demonstrated as a means of increasing actuator authority while maintaining strain precision for adaptive optics used large throw deformable mirror applications. Single crystal (PMN-PT crystal) stack actuators with foot print size of 5 mm × 5 mm and height varied from 16 mm to 21 mm

Piezoelectric deformable mirror based on monolithic PVDF membranes
SPIE Proceedings, 2011Deformable mirrors using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes in a bimorph configuration have been previously investigated. Kratos Defense and Security Solutions, in partnership with Advanced Optical Systems, Inc. and NeXolve, Inc., have been evaluating the utility of unimorph PVDF films for fabrication of deformable mirrors.

Tilt displacement range testing for a piezoelectric deformable mirror
SPIE Proceedings, 2016In our previous works, we presented a zoom system and image stabilization design based on deformable mirrors (DMs). According to the high bandwidth and free edge characteristics of the piezoelectric deformable mirror (PDM), we tested the system’s image-stable capability.

Piezoelectric deformable mirror technologies for astronomy at IOE, CAS
SPIE Proceedings, 2014Institute of Optics & Electronics (IOE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has more than 30 years’ experience on piezoelectric deformable mirror (DM) technologies research and developing since early 1980s. Several DMs of IOE have been used in many different application systems.

Piezoelectric unimorph MEMS deformable mirror for ultra-large telescopes
SPIE Proceedings, 2005This paper describes the results of our demonstration on a proof-of-concept piezoelectric unimorph-based deformable mirror (DM) with continuous single-crystal silicon membrane. A PZT unimorph actuator of 2.5 mm in diameter with optimized PZT/Si thickness and design showed a deflection of 5 μm at 50 V.

Testing of thermally piezoelectric deformable mirror with buried functionality
SPIE Proceedings, 2014Laser-induced mirror deformation and thermal lensing in optical high power systems shall be compensated by a thermally-piezoelectric deformable mirror (DM). In our device, the laser-induced thermal lensing is compensated by heating of the DM as previously described with compound loading.

Prototype Small Footprint Amplifier for Piezoelectric Deformable Mirrors
2011Adaptive Optics (AO) systems of the Extremely Large Telescopes (ELT) will incorporate deformable mirrors with an order of magnitude larger number of piezoelectric actuators than the AO systems currently deployed. Simply scaling up the drive electronics offered commercially would substantially drive up the AO cost, pose unacceptably high demands for the

Piezoelectric MEMS deformable mirrors with high-density actuator array
2011 IEEE 24th International Conference on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems, 2011We fabricated piezoelectric MEMS deformable mirror (DM) with high-density actuator array for adaptive optics to realize low-voltage and high-resolution retinal imaging. 61-element actuator array composed of lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin film was deposited on the mirror diaphragm, and the diaphragm was deformed by applying control voltage onto the ...

Requirements for piezoelectric materials for deformable mirrors
Ferroelectrics, 1980Abstract Deformable mirrors to correct wavefront errors in real time have emerged as a key component in adaptive optical systems being developed for a variety of applications. Piezoelectric materials, particularly lead zinconate titanate have proven to be the most desirable actuators for high speed, high element density, electrically controlled mirrors.
