Eliminating hysteresis of piezoelectric deformable mirror by charge control

Optics Communications, 2015
Inherent hysteresis of piezoelectric deformable mirror (DM) limits the performance of adaptive optics (AO) systems including bandwidth and residual wavefront error. A charge control method based on switched capacitor charge pump was proposed to eliminate the hysteresis of piezoelectric DM.

Optimization of mirror deformation strategy using mechanical and piezoelectric bending system

Advances in X-Ray/EUV Optics and Components XVI, 2021
We have developed an X-ray zoom condenser optical system using deformable mirrors that can adjust the beam size by deformation of their shape. The shapes of deformable mirrors are changed by a combination of mechanical and piezoelectric bending. Large deformations up to third order polynomials are achieved by mechanical bending. More precise shapes are

A piezoelectric deformable mirror for intra-cavity laser adaptive optics

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
This paper describes the development of a deformable mirror to be used in conjunction with diffractive optical elements inside a laser cavity. A prototype piezoelectric unimorph adaptive mirror was developed to correct for time dependent phase aberrations to the laser beam, such as those caused by thermal expansion of materials.

Piezoelectric PVDF actuated, lightweight deformable thin mirror for adaptive optics

2016 International Conference on Optical MEMS and Nanophotonics (OMN), 2016
We present a light-weight deformable concept based on film-form glass and piezoelectric PVDF films compatible with a roll-to-roll compatible fabrication process. The feasibility of the approach is demonstrated through FEA simulations.

Experimental and simulation study of undesirable short-period deformation in piezoelectric deformable x-ray mirrors

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2012
To construct adaptive x-ray focusing optics whose optical parameters can be varied while performing wavefront correction, ultraprecise piezoelectric deformable mirrors have been developed. We computationally and experimentally investigated undesirable short-period deformation caused by piezoelectric actuators adhered to the substrate during mirror ...

Modelling and analysis of circular bimorph piezoelectric actuator for deformable mirror

Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 2016
A theoretical model of a circular flexure-mode piezoelectric bimorph actuator is established. The circular bimorph structure, consisting of two flexible layers of piezoelectric material and a layer of metallic material in the middle, is powered to the flexural deformation.

A novel high-speed piezoelectric deformable varifocal mirror for optical applications

Technical Digest. MEMS 2002 IEEE International Conference. Fifteenth IEEE International Conference on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (Cat. No.02CH37266), 2003
We describe the characteristics of a microelectromechanical deformable optical component: a parabolic focusing mirror having a focal length that is controlled by piezoelectric actuation of thin-film PZT. Devices of two different sizes were tested and have resonant frequencies in the low MHz range, nominal focal lengths between 1500 and 2000 /spl mu/m ...

Hysteresis compensation of piezoelectric deformable mirror based on Prandtl–Ishlinskii model

Optics Communications, 2018
Abstract Hysteresis of piezoelectric deformable mirror (DM) reduces the closed-loop bandwidth and the open-loop correction accuracy of adaptive optics (AO) systems. In this work, a classical Prandtl–Ishlinskii (PI) model is employed to model the hysteresis behavior of a unimorph DM with 20 actuators.

Hard X-ray nanofocusing using adaptive focusing optics based on piezoelectric deformable mirrors

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2015
An adaptive Kirkpatrick–Baez mirror focusing optics based on piezoelectric deformable mirrors was constructed at SPring-8 and its focusing performance characteristics were demonstrated. By adjusting the voltages applied to the deformable mirrors, the shape errors (compared to a target elliptical shape) were finely corrected on the basis of the mirror ...

Performance of a thermal-piezoelectric deformable mirror under 62  kW continuous-wave operation

Applied Optics, 2013
The thermal-piezoelectric deformable mirror (TPDM) is a device employed to compensate for laser-induced mirror deformation and thermal lensing in high-power optical systems. The TPDM setup is a unimorph deformable mirror with thermal and piezoelectric actuation properties. Laser-induced thermal lensing is compensated for by heating of the TPDM. We show
