THE DISCOVERY OF THE PIEZOELECTRIC EFFECT

Origin of the piezoelectric effect in bone
Calcified Tissue Research, 1971The piezoelectric effect was measured in samples of human bone and repeated with the same samples after either demineralization or decollagenation. The results indicate that at least part and possibly all of the piezoelectric effect found in whole bone arises from the organic component. The existence of two alternatives results from the unknown role of

Piezoelectric drill based on converse piezoelectric effect
2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications, 2008A new type of mode convert piezoelectric drill is presented. The drill uses converse piezoelectric effect to work. When exciting voltage is applied on piezoelectric ceramics, the basic structure of the drill will produce longitudinal vibration, which will be converted to local bending vibration by the drill bit fixed on the basic structure with an ...

Dual piezoelectric beam robot: The effect of piezoelectric patches’ positions
Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, 2015Inspired from linear traveling wave ultrasonic motors, a dual piezoelectric beam robot is presented. It consists of an aluminum beam structure, with two non-collocated piezoelectric patches bonded on its surface. The aim of this article is to study the effect of the piezoelectric patches’ positions on the performance of the robot.

Investigation on Multi-Piezoelectric Effects from the First Positive Piezoelectric Effect
Key Engineering Materials, 2014Based on the traditional piezoelectric effect theory, the process of multi-piezoelectric effects generation is analyzed and the theory of the secondary and tertiary piezoelectric effect is deduced by four kinds of piezoelectric equations. Experimental research is performed through the PZT-5 piezoelectric ceramics stack, the existence of multi ...

In spite of the successful production of a variety of piezoelectric devices, the true origin of the piezoelectric effect is often obscure and the devices not necessarily optimised. Consideration of the underlying electromechanical physics of the phenomenon shows that it is closely associated with double layers of nanometric dimension generated in the ...
