Electrically Controlled Piezoelectric Motion of Piezoelectric Chiral Polymeric Fibers

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2008
The electrically controlled piezoelectric motion of a fiber of poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA), a type of chiral polymer, is investigated. Laser light was propagated into the PLLA fiber, and when the controlling electric field was applied to the fiber, the direction of the outgoing beam from the fiber changed owing to its piezoelectric motion. The change in

Fabrication of piezoelectric fibers with metal core

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
ABSTRACT A study on the fabrication of Pb(Nb,Ni)O 3 -Pb(Zr,Ti)O 3 (PNN-PZT) piezoelectric ceramic fibers with a metal core is introduced. The green fibers were fabricated by extruding a mixture of PNN-PZT powder and organic solvent together with a 50 m Pt core.

Design of the metal-core piezoelectric fiber

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
We produced a new piezoelectric fiber with metal core by the hydrothermal method. The insertion of metal core was significant in view that the fragility of ceramics can be overcome and electrodes are not required in the use as sensors and actuators.

Surface-condensed piezoelectric fibers and composites

Materials Chemistry and Physics, 2014
Abstract An extrusion process that combined the surface condensation reaction was used to fabricate PZT fibers to exhibit a smooth surface and a circular morphology, with favorable manipulation strength. The sintered fibers showed more tetragonality. The electromechanical coupling coefficient and the resonant frequency of the PZT fibers had increased,

Anisotropic Actuation with Piezoelectric Fiber Composites

Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, 1995
An investigation was made into the field of planar structural actuation with anisotropic active materials. The mechanisms for creating anisotropic actuators were discussed, and the impact of anisotropy was shown at the individual lamina level and at the laminated structure level.

Piezoelectric Fiber Composites with Interdigitated Electrodes

Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, 1997
Piezoelectric Fiber Composites were previously introduced as an alternative to monolithic piezoceramic wafers for structural actuation applications. This manuscript was an investigation into the improvement of piezoelectric fiber composite performance through a nonconventional electroding scheme.

Dynamic effective property of piezoelectric composites with coated piezoelectric nano-fibers

Composites Science and Technology, 2014
Abstract This paper addresses the size-dependent dynamic effective electro-elastic properties of piezoelectric composites embedded with coated piezoelectric nano-fibers. By using the Effective Field Method of electric–elastic coupling wave, the randomly distributed coated nano-fibers in the piezoelectric media are reduced into a typical piezoelectric

Effects of fiber volume fraction on strain of piezoelectric fiber composites

International Journal of Materials Research, 2016
Abstract Piezoceramic fibers as the active deforming component in piezoelectric fiber composites have the largest influence on the overall strain of the composites. The results of this study show that the fabricated composites exhibited clearly anisotropic actuation properties.
