Characterization of Piezoelectric Stacks for Space Applications

Earth & Space 2008, 2008
Future NASA missions are increasingly seeking to actuate mechanisms to precision levels in the nanometer range and below. Co-fired multilayer piezoelectric stacks offer the required actuation precision that is needed for such mechanisms. To obtain performance statistics and determine reliability for extended use, sets of commercial PZT stacks were ...

Inter-element mounting for stacked piezoelectric transducers

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1992
In a preferred embodiment, an inter-element mounting for ceramic elements in a piezoelectric transducer stack, which mounting includes two metal plates disposed between adjacent surfaces of the ceramic elements. The metal-plates are cantilevered with respect to the surfaces of the ceramic elements, such that a substantial portion of the areas of the ...

Composite piezoelectric spinal fusion implant: Effects of stacked generators

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, 2015
AbstractSpinal fusion surgeries have a high failure rate for difficult‐to‐fuse patients. A piezoelectric spinal fusion implant was developed to overcome the issues with other adjunct therapies. Stacked generators were used to improve power generation at low electrical load resistances.

A multi-piezoelectric structure: the stacked transducer

IEEE 1991 Ultrasonics Symposium, 2002
A new piezoelectric structure made of several ceramic plates stacked together is proposed. With such an arrangement a gain in sensitivity can be obtained via constructive addition of the different ceramic signals appropriately delayed. Conversely, a reduction of the pulse duration can be achieved with destructive interference.

Development of a piezoelectric proton exchange membrane fuel cell stack (PZT-Stack)

Journal of Power Sources, 2013
Abstract Previous studies report that bi-cell piezoelectric proton exchange membrane fuel cells with a nozzle and a diffuser have been successfully developed, and this pseudo-bipolar design is expected to benefit the future development of the piezoelectric stack (PZT-Stack). In this study, an innovative PZT-Stack design composed of three L-PZT-D-type

A novel microgripper hybrid driven by a piezoelectric stack actuator and piezoelectric cantilever actuators

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2016
For the piezo-driven microgripper, one issue is to enlarge the grasping stroke and realize parallel grasping movement in the compact design. Piezoelectric stack actuator (PSA) and piezoelectric cantilever actuator (PCA) are two kinds of typical piezoelectric actuators. In this study, a novel microgripper hybrid driven by a PSA and two PCAs is proposed,

Modeling for Piezoelectric Stacks in Series and Parallel

2013 Third International Conference on Intelligent System Design and Engineering Applications, 2013
Piezoelectric energy harvesting is a new type technology of green energy. To increase energy harvesting efficiency from below frequencies, which exist mostly in ambient, the piezoelectric stack assembled electrically in series and parallel is used as the energy harvester.

Sling-shot buckling in stacked piezoelectric structures

2014
A stacked structure consisting of two beam-plates, each being a different piezoelectric material, subject to a uniformly increasing electric field is analyzed. One beam-plate is perfectly adhered over the central portion of the other. We consider the limiting boundary conditions for the bottom layer, the baseplate: clamped-fixed and hinged-fixed ...
