A Miniaturized Piezo Stack Impact Actuation Mechanism for Out-of-Plane Freely Moveable Masses

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
We present the prototype and analytical model of a miniaturized impact actuation mechanism, providing a fast out-of-plane displacement to accelerate objects against gravity, allowing for freely moving objects and hence for large displacements without the

A piezoelectric multilayer-stacked hybrid actuation/transduction system [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2011
A piezoelectric multilayer-stacked hybrid actuation/transduction system (stacked-HYBATS) is reported in this letter. It uses synergetic contributions from positive-strain and negative-strain piezoelectric multilayer-stacks to give displacements of about 3.5 times those of the same-sized piezoelectric flextensional actuator/transducer.

A Novel Hybrid Actuator Driven Magnetically in the Bi-Cell PEM Fuel Cell Stack

open access: yesMetals, 2017
This study develops an air breathing pump driven by a piezoelectric actuator for a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) stack. Permanent magnets are combined with a piezoelectric actuator to drive three air breathing pumps using magnetic force ...

Pathway to the PiezoElectronic Transduction Logic Device

open access: yes, 2015
The information age challenges computer technology to process an exponentially increasing computational load on a limited energy budget - a requirement that demands an exponential reduction in energy per operation.

Simple piezoelectric-actuated mirror with 180 kHz servo bandwidth

open access: yes, 2010
We present a high bandwidth piezoelectric-actuated mirror for length stabilization of an optical cavity. The actuator displays a transfer function with a flat amplitude response and greater than 135$^\circ$ phase margin up to 200 kHz, allowing a 180 kHz ...

Reconfigurable Magnetic Soft Microrobot for Acoustically Triggered Targeted Bacterial Sterilization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Reconfigurable magnetic soft microrobots integrate in situ‐grown piezoelectric zinc oxide nanorods that produce reactive oxygen species upon acoustic excitation. Combining magnetically guided transport with thermally induced planar reconfiguration, the microrobots achieve targeted delivery and enhanced bacterial sterilization through efficient on ...
