Evaluating the profound effect of gut microbiome on host appetite in pigs

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2018
Background There are growing evidences showing that gut microbiota should play an important role in host appetite and feeding behavior. However, what kind of microbe(s) and how they affect porcine appetite remain unknown.

Fast Prototyping and Ex Vivo Evaluation of Dissolvable Millineedle Patches Made by Solvent Casting from CO2 Laser Ablated Elastomer Molds

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
CO2 laser ablation, a fast, inexpensive, and reproducible method, is used to create flexible elastomer molds with millimeter‐long cavities for the fabrication of dissolvable polymer needles. Made from PVP, these milli‐needles achieve ≈560 µm penetration into porcine skin, demonstrating their potential for effective transdermal drug delivery.

An Anticoagulant Coating Based on a Block Phosphocholine Copolymer for Potential Applications in Blood Contact Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Anticoagulant properties are critical for blood‐compatible materials, and anticoagulant coatings are a common key issue for blood‐contacting medical devices. In this study, a block copolymer poly(2‐methacrylenoxyethyl phosphocholine‐b‐glycidyl) (PMPC‐b‐GMA) is synthesized, using reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) and

The fine‐scale genetic structure and selection signals of Chinese indigenous pigs

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, 2020
Genome‐wide SNP profiling has yielded insights into the genetic structure of China indigenous pigs, but has focused on a limited number of populations. Here, we present an analysis of population structure and signals of positive selection in 42 Chinese ...

Quantitative MRI molecular imaging in the evaluation of early post mortem changes in muscles. A feasibility study on a pig phantom [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports 2018, 2019
Estimating early postmortem interval EPI is a difficult task in daily forensic activity due to limitations of accurate and reliable methods. The aim of the present work is to describe a novel approach in the estimation of EPI based on quantitative magnetic resonance molecular imaging qMRMI using a pig phantom since post mortem degradation of pig meat ...

Scaling Strongly Consistent Replication [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Strong consistency replication helps keep application logic simple and provides significant benefits for correctness and manageability. Unfortunately, the adoption of strongly-consistent replication protocols has been curbed due to their limited scalability and performance. To alleviate the leader bottleneck in strongly-consistent replication protocols,

Progress and Application of Multifunctional Hydrogel in Radioactive Skin Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This review examines healing challenges in radiation‐wound injuries, where ionizing radiation impairs immune and tissue repair processes. Hydrogels, with their biocompatibility, antimicrobial properties, and drug delivery capabilities, present a transformative solution. It compares hydrogel efficacy in radiation‐induced versus common wounds, highlights
