siRNA Delivery via Cross‐Linked Gelatin Microparticles Enables Targeted Modulation of Osteogenic‐Vascular Cross‐Talk: An Advanced Human 3D in Vitro Test System for Therapeutic siRNA

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Osteogenic‐angiogenic cross‐talk is a vital prerequisite for vascularized bone regeneration. In this study, we investigated the effects of siRNA‐mediated silencing of two inhibitory proteins, Chordin and WWP‐1, via CaP‐NP‐loaded gelatin microparticles in osteogenically differentiated microtissues.

Blue light regenerates functional visual pigments in mammals through a retinyl-phospholipid intermediate. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The light absorbing chromophore in opsin visual pigments is the protonated Schiff base of 11-cis-retinaldehyde (11cRAL). Absorption of a photon isomerizes 11cRAL to all-trans-retinaldehyde (atRAL), briefly activating the pigment before it dissociates ...

Evaluation of the Dual Impact of Nanotechnologies on Health and Environment Through Alternative Bridging Models

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores how alternative invertebrate and small‐vertebrate models advance the evaluation of nanomaterials across medicine and environmental science. By bridging cellular and organismal levels, these models enable integrated assessment of toxicity, biodistribution, and therapeutic performance.

Sensitivity of freshwater periphytic diatoms to agricultural herbicides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The biomonitoring of pesticide pollution in streams and rivers using algae such as diatoms remains difficult. The responses of diatomcommunities to toxic stress in streamwater are disturbed by the variations of environmental parameters.

Pioneering the Future: Principles, Advances, and Challenges in Organic Electrodes for Aqueous Ammonium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 13, April 2, 2025.
Leveraging the numerous advantages of ammonium‐ion (NH₄⁺)—including cost‐effectiveness, low corrosiveness, preferential orientation, and rapid diffusion kinetics—aqueous NH₄⁺ batteries (AAIBs) have gained significant attention. This review highlights and evaluates the progress of AAIBs utilizing organic electrode materials such as small molecules ...

Characterization of photoluminescent and Raman properties of ultramarine blue pigment variants with a novel multimodal approach [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Ultramarine Blue (UB) pigment, derived from lapis lazuli, holds a significant place in the history of late medieval and Renaissance Europe, owing to its unusually bright colour and stability. Its prohibitive price, which equalled that of gold, meant that

Identification of Major Pigments Containing D-Amino Acid Units in Commercial Monascus Pigments.

open access: yesChemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 1997
Eight major pigments have been isolated from commercial Monascus pigments. The structural data on the pigments were obtained using NMR, MS, and semisyntheses. The pigments were characterized as alanine or aspartate derivatives of the orange pigments of Monascus, monascorubrin (1) and rubropunctatin (2), which have an azaphilone structure.

The differentiation of cholesterol and pigment gallstones [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Gallbladder biles and stones were obtained at 116 cholecystectomies for symptomatic gallstone disease. All 33 patients younger than 50 years had cholesterol stones, whereas 40% of the older patients had pigment stones.
