DARK BROWN AMNIOTIC FLUID—IDENTIFICATION OF CONTRIBUTING PIGMENTS

BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1981
SummaryA total of 208 second trimester amniotic fluid samples were examined visually and spectrophotometrically for pigmentation. Of these, 15 samples had dark brown colouration. Fourteen of the 15 samples had chemically detectable haemoglobin derived pigments and one had meconium only.

Raman microscopy of Greek icons: identification of unusual pigments

Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2003
Five Greek icons, made between the 15th and 18th centuries and now belonging to the Victoria and Albert Museum collections, were analysed by energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF), optical microscopy and Raman microscopy in order to determine the stratigraphy of the artworks and the identity of the pigments used.

Identification of GABA receptors in chick retinal pigment epithelium

Neuroscience Letters, 2013
The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is a multifunctional, monolayer of cells located between the neural retina and the choroicapillaris. γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the most important inhibitory neurotransmitter in the retina and GABA receptors are known to be present in chick retina, sclera and cornea.

The isolation and identification of indigoid pigments from urine

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1988
A purple pigment, phyriaviolin, and a blue pigment, phyriaazulin, have been found in relatively large amounts in the urine of patients suffering from two diverse pathological conditions, porphyria cutanea tarda and Crohn's disease. The two pigments have been characterised by chemical, spectroscopic, and chromatographic studies and identified to be ...

Potential of electrospray mass spectrometry for meat pigment identification

Meat Science, 1993
The potential of electrospray mass spectrometry (ESMS) to identify haem pigments from different species has been investigated. Purified haemoglobin and myoglobin from various sources (pig, beef, sheep and horse) were analysed by ESMS. The spectra showed ions corresponding to the molecular weights of the globin portions of the haemoproteins. When boiled

Short Methods for the Identification of Pigments

American Antiquity, 1975
Semi-micro methods have been devised for the identification of the metallic components comprising the pigments used in mesoamerican mural paintings. These methods are based upon samples of 10-15 mgfor each of the colors to be studied and include the reds, greens, blues, blacks and browns. The analyses are performed on individual samples for each color,

Two rapid pigmentation tests for identification of Cryptococcus neoformans

Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1982
Two tests were developed for the rapid identification of Cryptococcus neoformans based on pigment produced by the organism's phenoloxidase activity. Caffeic acid was incorporated into cornmeal agar, a medium used routinely for yeast identification. When tested on this medium, only C. neoformans isolates produced brown pigment.

Identification and Spectroscopic Characterization of Photoreceptor Pigments

1980
From the previous chapters it should be quite clear by now that living organisms interact with the external world via specialized molecules that are able to undergo certain physico-chemical modifications in response to environmental stimuli, thus initiating the process of signalling to the organism that something outside is now different.

[29] Identification of carotenoid pigments in birds

1992
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the identification of carotenoid pigments in birds. One extraordinary feature of avian carotenoids is their packaging. Feathers are unique to birds and form the interface between a remarkable metabolic machine and an unforgiving environment. The colors and patterns of their display are exceedingly important in

Pigment identification by analytical imaging using multispectral images

2009 16th IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2009
This study utilized multispectral images to analyze pigments on a painting. This was accomplished by capturing multispectral images using a high-resolution image scanning system equipped with a monochromatic line CCD. The images were used to reconstruct spectral reflectance by solving a linear transfer function model representing camera response and ...
