We present 5 cases of pilar tumor, and we review the controversy over whether this tumor has a malignant potential. We feel the correct treatment is excision deep to galea, with a one to two cm margin of normal scalp. Presented with a pathology report of "pilar tumor" on a "shelled out" or ruptured sebaceous cyst, we feel the correct treatment is ...

Piloleiomyomas are benign smooth muscle tumors arising from the arrectores pilorum muscles in the skin. They usually occur as multiple firm dermal nodules located on the extremities and trunk. AbstractPilar leiomyomas are usually multiple and are commonly found on the extensor aspects of the arm, trunk, and face. They are rarely distributed in a linear fashion or seem to follow a dermatome. We report a case of painful, unilateral, zosteriform cutaneous leiomyoma in a 25‐year‐old housewife.

We report 16 cases of trichilemmal pilar tumors. All of the patients were women of older ages. These unusual tumors are located chiefly on the scalp and consists of areas of squamous epithelium with non-epidermal keratinization and moderate cellular polymorphism. The origin of the tumor appears to be the outer root sheath of hair. Two of our cases were
