Integrity Testing of Three Model Piles with a Pile Cap
Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2018Abstract Nondestructive pile integrity testing (PIT) methods based on the propagation of sonic/ultrasonic waves have been widely used for the quality assurance of newly constructed drilled shafts. However, application of these techniques for forensic investigations of existing piles may encounter difficulties that are due to the ...

Simulated Seismic Load Tests on Prestressed Concrete Piles and Pile-Pile Cap Connections
PCI Journal, 1990The results of tests conducted in New Zealand on prestressed concrete piles and pile-pile cap connections subjected to simulated seismic loading are summarized. The piles were of prestressed pretensioned concrete with a 400 mm (15.7 in.) octagonal cross section and contained spiral reinforcement. The pile caps were of reinforced concrete.

Nonlinear Buckling Analysis of Piles with High-Rise Pile Cap
Deep Foundations and Geotechnical In Situ Testing, 2010To study the buckling stability of piles with high-rise cap widely used in bridge and harbor engineering, the advantages as well as the insufficiency of traditional analysis methods (e.g., the method using the minimum potential energy theory and variational method by treating the pile shaft as ideal axially-compressed bars) were first discussed.

Seismic performance of prestressed concrete piles and pile-pile cap connections
1987The performance, strength and ductility of prestressed concrete piles, and their connection to pile caps, subjected to severe seismic loading are investigated in this thesis. Knowledge of the strength and ductility of the pile within its embedded length in the foundation material is of importance due to the large deformations which can occur during an ...

Effect of Pile Layout and Pile Cap Thickness on Load Distribution in Piles
2018The paper illustrates, through practical examples, the effect of pile layout and pile cap thickness on the load distribution among different piles in a pile group. Study has been done considering square and rectangular pile cap configurations with different pile cap thickness being considered for each pile arrangement pattern.

Influence of Cap Rigidity on the Performance of Piled-Cap Foundation
2018Piled-cap foundations are recognized for sharing the total load by the piles and the cap. In practice, it is assumed that the cap will distribute uniformly the load to the piles, which is often used in choosing the thickness of the cap. In the literature, research in this field remained lagging behind due to the difficulties associated in modeling ...

A variational approach for the analysis of pile group–pile cap interaction
Géotechnique, 2000This paper presents a variational approach for the analysis of pile groups having rigid pile caps in contact with the ground. The pile groups are assumed to be embedded in an isotropic elastic half-space. Both the deformations and shear stresses of group piles are each represented by a finite series with a set of undetermined constants, and Mindlin's ...

Boundary Effects of Pile Cap on the Integrity Testing of Group Piles
2018Low-strain surface reflection pile integrity testing (PIT) methods have been successfully used for the quality assurance of newly-built individual piles. However, for existing piles with pile cap, previous studies have shown that the stress-wave reflected from the boundaries of pile cap may cause difficulties in determining their integrity.

When simulating the response of buildings on piled foundations due to ground vibration, the coupling conditions between the piles, the soil and the building structure may have an important effect on the results. In this paper, the significance of the coupling conditions between the piles and the soil, as well as the interaction assumptions adopted to ...
