Effect of Raker Piles in Lateral Load Capacity of Laterally Loaded Pile Group

Soil Behavior and Geomechanics, 2014
Lateral load tests were performed on a raker pile group to determine the lateral load capacity. The behaviour of a pile group subjected to lateral load was studied through laboratory experiments with aluminum pipe pile with outer diameter of 25.4 mm and thickness of 1 mm. In this experimental study, clean river sand was used as a soil medium.

Engineered piles to improve cyclic load capacity

Marine Geotechnology, 1990
Abstract Theoretical analyses have been carried out on five different pile types in two hypothetical soils representing offshore calcareous sediment profiles. It is demonstrated that both static and cyclic performance can be improved, over that of a conventional uniform pile, by altering the distribution of diameter and/or stiffness along the pile.

Physical Modelling of High-Capacity Piles under Axial Loading

2021
ABSTRACT This paper presents selected aspects of an on-going experimental study on the enhanced capacity of deep foundations under axial loading. The research uses geotechnical centrifuge model testing to examine the behaviour of rotary bored piles in over consolidated clay.

Updating Single Pile Capacity by Load Tests

IFCEE 2015, 2015
Proof load tests measure the capacity of piles and are commonly used to confirm the design capacity of the piles has been achieved. The statistical reliability of the pile foundations can also be updated based on these test results. Low factor of safety can be used in the design stage if a certain number of tests will be performed.

Bearing capacity of pile groups under vertical eccentric load

Acta Geotechnica, 2018
The paper deals with the problem of the bearing capacity of pile groups under vertical eccentric load. Widespread practice is to consider the achievement of the axial capacity on the outermost pile as the ultimate limit state of the pile group. However, this approach neglects the ductility of the foundation system and may be thereby overconservative ...

Pile capacity under oblique loads – evaluation from load–displacement curves

International Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 2014
Evaluation of pile capacity from load–displacement curves under oblique loads is an intricate task. Because under oblique loads, load–displacement curves do not exhibit a distinct plunge point. Several methods have been adopted by different researchers to evaluate pile capacity from load–displacement curves under oblique loads.

Inclined loading capacity of suction piles in sand

Ocean Engineering, 2011
A series of centrifuge model tests have been conducted on a model suction pile embedded in sand to evaluate its inclined pull-out loading capacity. This paper describes the centrifuge model tests, the analytical solution, and comparisons between the centrifuge model test results and the analytical predictions of the pull-out capacities of the suction ...

Load Bearing Capacity of Lateral Loaded Piles in Watered Carpathian Flysch

Archives of Mining Sciences, 2023
In this paper, flysch is presented as a representative material of a wide section of the Carpathian Mountains, with some areas in Poland highlighted. The geological structure of this area is complex due to the alternating layers of blocky rock masses and soil (Vessia et al., 2017).

Uplift Capacity of Model Piles Under Oblique Loads

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1976
Structures such as transmission towers and mooring systems for ocean surface or submerged platforms with pile foundations are subjected to uplifting forces. A limited amount of work is found in literature regarding the theoretical analysis and experimental determination of the uplift capacity of pile foundations in granular and cohesive soils.

Uplift Capacity of Axially Loaded Piles in Clays

International Journal of Geomechanics, 2011
The present study aims at determining the uplift capacity of axially loaded piles in clays whose undrained cohesion increases linearly with depth. With the application of the axisymmetric static limit analysis approach, proposed recently by the writers, the variation of the nondimensional uplift factors with respect to changes in the embedment ratio ...
