Dislocation Pile-Up in Half-Space
Journal of Applied Physics, 1969If an obstacle exists in the vicinity of the free surface of a half-space and a stress field is applied in such a manner that dislocations are pushed towards the obstacle, an array of dislocations then piles up into an equilibrium distribution against the obstacle. The distributions of dislocations are obtained by the Wiener-Hopf technique for the edge

The effects of uniform and nonuniform pile spacing variations on local scour at pile groups
Marine Georesources & Geotechnology, 2017Pile groups are frequently used to support bridge decks. Scour in the vicinity of piles is the main cause for the bridges failure.

Selection of spacing in a group of hollow circular piles
Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, 1996Results of field tests of groups of hollow circular piles with an open lower end, which are embedded with a reduced spacing, are presented. It is demonstrated that the reduction in spacing does not lower the bearing capacity of the group. General recommendations are presented for the design of pile groups.

Experimental Investigation of Optimum Piles Spacing for Piled Raft Foundation in Sandy Soils
2021Piled foundations are used in the cases where the structural loads cannot be carried safely with the shallow foundations. Piled raft foundation has become a prominent foundation system in recent years due to that it combines load bearing capacities of piles and raft. Therefore, comprehensive analytical and experimental studies have been carried out for

The effect of pile spacing and arrangement on bed formation and scour hole dimensions in pile groups
International Journal of River Basin Management, 2017ABSTRACTPile scour is the main cause of bridge failure. A physical model used in this research to study scour around a group of piles in clear-water conditions. The study examined changes in stream bed, volume and area of scour holes due to changes in pile spacing and arrangements.

ANSYS is used to carry out 3d elastic-plastic finite element analysis on the transmission tower foundation of different pile spacing. Non-thickness contact element is employed to simulate the nonlinear behavior of pile-soil interaction. Drucker-Prager elastic-plastic constitutive model is adopted to represent nonlinear behavior of soil, the pile being ...

Numerical Investigation of Impact of Pile Space on Flow around Two Vertical Cylindrical Piles
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012The flow around two vertical cylindrical piles exposed to a steady current is studied numerically by a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model, which is closured with a k-ε turbulence model. This model is firstly validated by experimental data obtained from a labortory experiment for a steady flow through a circular pile. Then this validated model is used
