A pilot protection scheme based on high‐frequency transient current waveform similarity for AC lines connected to HVDC inverter station

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission & Distribution
Affected by inverter station commutation failure and fast control, line fault characteristics are obviously different from traditional AC transmission line fault characteristics.

Pilot Protection for Converter-interconnected Lines Based on Multi-stage Mutation of Fault Current

open access: yesZhongguo dianli
The introduction of power electronic converters has altered the fault characteristics of the traditional power grids. Traditional differential protection is inadequate to meet protection requirements when AC lines experience faults, leading to reduced ...

Techniques for active lumbar stabilisation for spinal protection: A pilot study [PDF]

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Physiotherapy, 1992
Active protection of the lumbar spine is important in prevention of back strain during exercise. This EMG study investigated three common techniques used for lumbar stabilisation : posterior pelvic tilt, lower abdominal hollowing with lumbar spine flattening and abdominal bracing.

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Metagenomic Resolution of Functional Diversity in Copper Surface-Associated Marine Biofilms

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
We used metagenomic sequencing combined with morphological and chemical analyses to investigate microbial taxa and functions related to copper-resistance and microbiologically influenced corrosion in mature copper-associated biofilms in coastal seawater ...

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Characteristics of High Saturation Hydrate Reservoirs in the Low-Angle Subduction Area of the Makran Accretionary Prism

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
To delineate the spatial distribution of high saturation gas hydrate reservoirs in the low-angle subduction areas of the Makran Accretionary Prism, we conducted seismic data interpretation and impedance inversion of gas hydrates in the Makran ...
