Niche preferences and spatial distribution of Monogenea on the gills of Pimelodus maculatus in Río de la Plata (Argentina) [PDF]

open access: yesParasitology, 1999
Five Monogenea species were found on the gills of the catfish Pimelodus maculatus in Río de la Plata (Argentina). These were used for studying the preference of species on different gill-hemibranches, niche breadth and niche overlap between species. It was found that congeneric species had a generic-specific preference for certain gill-hemibranches ...

Reynolds shear-stress and velocity: positive biological response of neotropical fishes to hydraulic parameters in a vertical slot fishway

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology
The barriers created by dams can cause negative impacts to aquatic communities, and migratory fish species are directly affected. Fishways have been developed to allow the upstream passage of fishes through dams.

Effect of a fat-free diet and of different dietary fatty acids (palmitate, oleate, and linoleate) on the fatty acid composition of fresh-water fish lipids

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1963
When fresh-water fish Pimelodus maculatus were fed a fat-deficient diet, the concentration of linoleic and arachidonic acids in glycerides and phospholipids decreased, and the concentration of palmitic, palmitoleic, oleic, and eicosatrienoic acids ...

Use of the gills of Pimelodus maculatus (Lacèpéde, 1803) (Siluriformes, Pimelodidae) as a biomarker of pollution in the reservoir of UHE Marechal Mascarenhas de Moraes, Minas Gerais, Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesBiotemas, 2011
The gills of fish are biomarkers of environmental toxicity which are often used to assess the impacts of xenobiotics. This study aims to evaluate the contamination of the reservoir Marechal Mascarenhas de Moraes, through the estimation ofthe rate of ...

First report of the characterization of the pathophysiological mechanisms caused by the freshwater catfish Pimelodus maculatus (order: Siluriformes)

open access: yesToxicon, 2015
Injuries caused by aquatic animals in Brazil in most cases are provoked by marine and freshwater catfish. Pimelodus maculatus is a freshwater catfish very common in Brazilian basins that causes frequent accidents mainly amongst fishermen, and whose venom characteristics and pathological mechanisms of the venom are poorly known. In the present study for

The structure of the monogenean community on the gills of Pimelodus maculatus in Río de la Plata (Argentina)

open access: yesParasitology, 1999
The Monogenea fauna was studied from the gills of the catfish Pimelodus maculatus. Fish were caught from Río de la Plata, in Buenos Aires harbour (Argentina). Five species of Monogenea were found. The structure of the monogenean community was analysed at the component and infracommunity level.
