Whole-Genome Sequences of 13 Chinese Indigenous Pinewood Nematodes, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences
The pinewood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, PWN) induces pine wilt disease in Pinaceae plants, causing severe destruction to pine forests. Previous studies report that by 2023, 663 cities across 18 provinces in China had been infested by the PWN, necessitating immediate control measures. To identify the genetic variations associated with the PWN’

Are Bursaphelenchus xylophilus-associated bacteria playing a role in pine wilt disease? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Pine wilt disease (PWD), presently the most severe coniferous disease worldwide, is caused by the plant parasitic nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, the pinewood nematode (PWN).

Evaluating Vacuum and Steam Heat to Eliminate Pinewood Nematodes in Naturally Infested Whole Pine Logs

open access: yesJournal of Nematology
Pinewood nematodes threaten forest health and continue to interfere with international trade because they can be spread around the globe via nematode-infested wood.

Invasion of the pinewood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus

open access: yes, 2014
In this project, we were interested in the invasion of the pinewood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, a microscopic worm responsible for the pine wilt disease and causing the annual loss of millions of trees worldwide. Our global objective was to improve our knowledge on this case of invasion and particularly to clarify the invasion history of ...

Cambium destruction in conifers caused by pinewood nematodes.

open access: yesJournal of nematology, 2011
Percentage and rate of mortality in 2-4-year-old conifers depended upon the numbers of pinewood nematodes Bursaphelenchus xylophilus inoculated into their stems. In addition, percentage of conifer mortality was greater for spring inoculations when cambial activity was greater than for late summer and fall inoculations.

Pinewood nematode species complex: interbreeding potential and chromosome number.

open access: yesJournal of nematology, 2011
Interbreeding potential, chromosome number, and host range were compared among several isolates and species of Bursaphelenchus from diverse geographic areas. Some isolates from North America, Japan, and France had a wide-ranging interbreeding potential, whereas others were restricted in their potential to hybridize with other isolates.

Effect of fungal interactions on the numbers of the pinewood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (Nematoda : Aphelenchoididae), carried by the japanese pine sawyer, Monochamus alternatus (Coleoptera : Cerambycidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
