Pinguecula and Actinic Elastosis
Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, 1979Three cases of pinguecula (conjunctival elastosis) were ultrastructurally investigated. Findings were compared with the features described in cutaneous actinic elastosis. Changes observed were not uniform. In both diseases, numerous elastotic fibers were present with a finely granular matrix and masses of dense grains.

The pathology of pingueculae in Gaucher's disease
Ophthalmic Genetics, 1984Several reports have noted an apparent association between pingueculae and Gaucher's disease and suggested that the yellow coloring of these lesions is attributable to Gaucher cells. The authors biopsied pingueculae from ten patients with this disorder and examined them by serial light microscopy and electron microscopy.

Pterygium and Pinguecula: Electron Microscopic Study
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1967Eight pterygia alone, eight pterygia combined with pingueculae, and three pingueculae were studied by light and electron microscopy to evaluate the changes in collagen and elastic tissue that occur in these conditions. Hyaline degeneration in these growths results from an increase in the amount of a substance composed of degenerating collagen fibers ...

Relationship Between Contact Lens and Pinguecula
Eye & Contact Lens: Science & Clinical Practice, 2019Purpose: To investigate the effects of contact lens (CL) on the frequency of pinguecula, and the relationship between dry eye disease and pinguecula. Methods: Two hundred and 33 cases of soft CL wearers and 230 age-matched nonwearers were enrolled in the study.
