Switching and Jamming Transistor Effect for Vortex Matter in Honeycomb Pinning Arrays with ac Drives

open access: yes, 2009
We show that a remarkable variety of dynamical phenomena, including switching, polarization, symmetry locking, and dynamically induced pinning, can occur for vortices in type-II superconductors in the presence of a honeycomb pinning array and an ac or ...

Phenomenological and Physically Based Modeling of Flow Stress and Strengthening Mechanism of Inconel 718

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nickel‐based alloys are widely used in high‐temperature applications due to their excellent mechanical strength and oxidation resistance. However, properties such as high‐temperature strength and pronounced work‐hardening make them difficult to machine.

Memory formation and evolution of the vortex configuration associated with random organization

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2017
We study the general phenomenon of random organization using a vortex system. When a periodic shear with a small shear amplitude d _inp is applied to many-particle (vortex) assemblies with a random distribution, the particles (vortices) gradually self ...

One-dimensional pinning behavior in Co-doped BaFe2As2 thin films

open access: yes, 2013
Angle-resolved transport measurements revealed that planar defects dominate flux pinning in the investigated Co-doped BaFe2As2 thin film. For any given field and temperature, the critical current depends only on the angle between the crystallographic c ...

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

Enhancement of the critical current density in FeO-coated MgB2 thin films at high magnetic fields

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2011
The effect of depositing FeO nanoparticles with a diameter of 10 nm onto the surface of MgB2 thin films on the critical current density was studied in comparison with the case of uncoated MgB2 thin films.

Position-reconfigurable pinning for magnetic domain wall motion

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Precise control of magnetic domain wall (DW) motion is crucial for DW-based spintronic devices. To date, artificially designed DW pinning sites, such as notch structures, have been used to precisely control the DW position.

Disorder Effect on the Vortex Pinning by the Cooling Process Control in the Organic Superconductor $\kappa$-(BEDT-TTF)$_2$Cu[N(CN)$_2$]Br

open access: yes, 2003
We investigate the influence of disorders in terminal ethylene groups of BEDT-TTF molecules (ethylene-disorders) on the vortex pinning of the organic superconductor $\kappa$-(BEDT-TTF)$_2$Cu[N(CN)$_2$]Br.

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Is transphyseal intramedullary fixation of the distal radius in pediatric fractures a safe procedure? An MRI study

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery
BackgroundRadius and ulna fractures are very common in the pediatric population. Despite the use of pinning through the growth plate, which was proposed in the past and is still being used to treat these fractures, an instrumental validation to define ...
