Abstract Frequency of foxtailing in five stands of Pinus caribaea aged between 3 and 9 years was found to vary between 7 and 20%. Heights of foxtails were greater than normals on average at all ages, whereas diameters were greater only at 3 and 5 years. Foxtail stems were more often straighter and had fewer malformations than normals.
