Responses of Seeds of Pinus taeda & P. strobus to Light [PDF]
Seeds of loblolly pine, Pinus taeda L., and of white pine, P. strobtus L., which require a long moist treatment at a low temperature (stratification) for complete germination, were chosen for this study. Seeds of the former species require 30 to 90 days at 2 to 3 C and those of the latter 30 days at 10 C or 60 days at 4 C (27).

Evaluation of the Pinus taeda quality using ultrasound [PDF]
The pinus is a type of wood that is widely used as feedstock for the production of softwood pulp and higher quality paper, boards, MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), OSB (Oriented Standard Board), plywood, furniture and others. The main problem for the pinus is the attack by the wood wasps (Sirex noctilio F., 1793) (Hymenoptera; Siricidae) that damages ...

We used automated behavioral response systems (ABRs) to assess invasive wild pig (Sus scrofa) behavioral response to four auditory playbacks: humans, coyote vocalizations (Canis latrans), pigs in distress, and barred owl (Strix varia) calls. Wild pigs had a significant flight response to human playbacks, but 68% of pigs did not flee.

Wild pigs (Sus scrofa) prefer inoculated peanuts over whole‐kernel corn in cafeteria‐style study
In this study, we explored bait preference of wild pigs (Sus scrofa), a highly invasive species where primary removal efforts include the use of bait and corral‐style trapping. In addition, we investigated preferences of a common nontarget to identify a bait that is preferred by wild pigs and not by white‐tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus).

Ips sexdentatus is expanding across southern Europe, attacking multiple Pinus species and showing the ability to colonize trees at early stages of decline. Genetic analysis of 668 individuals revealed 106 haplotypes, with Iberian populations as diversity hotspots, reflecting long‐term refugial persistence alongside more recent demographic expansion ...
