Investigating Crack Resistance Behavior of Polypropylene Using J integral, J‐R Curve and Fractographic Analysis

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this study, the fracture response of polypropylene (PP) was assessed using J‐integral evaluation, J‐R curve construction, and fractography examination. J‐R and load–displacement curves were analyzed to determine critical loads and estimate J‐integral values based on standards established for polymer fracture testing, which led to the ...

Development of seismic fragility curves for buried sewer pipelines and considerations of their applicability: case study on damage estimation of the sewer pipeline network in Lima, Peru

open access: yesUrban Lifeline
Seismic damage data for buried sewer pipelines affected by six earthquakes in Japan were analyzed to construct fragility curves considering pipe type, pipe diameter, liquefaction occurrence, and ground conditions.

Acute freshwater CO2 exposure does not impair seawater transfer in three different sizes of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) subjected to different photoperiod manipulations

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract There is a growing interest in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) aquaculture to extend the time fish are reared in freshwater (FW) recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), producing larger FW salmon that can then be induced to undergo smoltification before transfer into marine net pens for grow‐out and harvest.

Assessment of two minimally invasive methodologies for sex identification in the European eel, Anguilla anguilla

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Sex is an important driver of variation in behaviour, ecology and physiology. Sex identification in the Critically Endangered European eel (Anguilla anguilla) currently requires fish sacrifice, or the use of morphological differences such as body length, which can be inaccurate in certain habitats and at intermediate body lengths.

“Me and God, We're Good”: Abortion Morality and Protestant Women Having Abortions in the South

open access: yesJournal for the Scientific Study of Religion, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines how 84 Protestant women in the South understand the morality of their abortion decisions, offering a nuanced perspective on the complex relationship between religion and abortion and revealing that many women navigate abortion decisions with theological depth, moral reasoning, and a profound sense of responsibility.

Mutual Outsourcing in a Vertically Related Market With Strategic Environmental Corporate Social Responsibility

open access: yesThe Manchester School, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study considers mutual outsourcing firms in a vertically related market and examines their strategic adoption of environmental corporate social responsibility (ECSR) activities. We demonstrate that ECSR adoption reduces mutual outsourcing firms' profits, resulting in a prisoner's dilemma situation, but enhances welfare regardless of ...

“Nowhere else to go”: Slow abandonment and (en)closures of long‐term care in Los Angeles

open access: yesMedical Anthropology Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract Residential long‐term care facilities, known in California as “board and care” homes, have been closing rapidly in the last decade. Proponents assert these provide vital forms of housing and care to the poor and must be saved, while critics contend they perpetuate the institutionalization of people with disabilities and should be abolished ...

Rupture Disc Opening Property for Using Pipe Rupture Test in JAERI

open access: yesRupture Disc Opening Property for Using Pipe Rupture Test in JAERI

Extracting vitalities: Cuts in Indigenous women's bodies‐territories (Brazil)

open access: yesMedical Anthropology Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract In this article, I explore the connections between the medicalization of childbirth and environmental devastation through Guarani‐Mbyá understandings of life and the living. I argue that the cuts made to Guarani‐Mbyá women's vaginas (episiotomies) in Brazilian hospitals are experienced and situated on the same cosmopolitical level as the cuts ...
