Calculation of the reliability of steel underground pipelines
Strength of Materials, 2009We present basic principles of reliability calculations for steel underground pipelines resting on stochastic elastic foundation that based on the strength and stiffness criteria using the absolute maxima of arbitrary functions. Specific numerical examples illustrating a general calculation procedure are presented.

Ultrasonic detection of hydrogen in pipeline steel
Ultrasonics, 1984Abstract An outline is presented of the research carried out into the non-destructive detection of hydrogen embrittlement, whilst it is still reversible. In overcoming serious problems in the cathodic charging method of introducing hydrogen into the lattice, three types of steel have been tested.

Magnetic Properties of Pipeline Steels are Variable
2004 International Pipeline Conference, Volumes 1, 2, and 3, 2004Magnetic or electromagnetic nondestructive inspection techniques for steel are ultimately limited by the fact that the magnetic properties of high strength steels used in pipelines vary considerably. Different samples of steels with similar mechanical specifications and properties can, and do, have very different magnetic properties.

The Basic Research of Experimental Steels for Pipelines
Solid State Phenomena, 2013The requirement for curde oil and natural gas is still increasing. It was observed a growing of interested in the exploration and exploatation of unconventional fuels, including shate gas. There is about 3 to 5 trilion cubic meters resources of that type of gas in Poland.

In-Service Degradation of Pipeline Steels
2020Long-term operation of structural steels causes an essential decrease of the mechanical properties, especially characteristics of brittle fracture and SCC resistance. General regularities of in-service degradation of pipeline steels are analysed in the chapter.

Extension of a Material Model for Pipeline Steels
Volume 4: Pipelining in Northern and Offshore Environments; Strain-Based Design; Risk and Reliability; Standards and Regulations, 2012Pipeline steel stress-strain curves obtained from tension and compression testing of longitudinally and circumferentially oriented specimens of the pipe wall can be significantly different e.g., the pipe material is anisotropic. The anisotropic behavior can result from the manufacturing process (e.g., due to cold expansion of UOE pipe) and can also be ...

Observations on Mortar Lining of Steel Pipelines
Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE, 1979The paper describes the experience obtained with the SBVMWD pipeline. Phase 1 exhibited significant cracking, and later some rusting, probably due to inadequate thickness and possible water hammer. The paper describes results of a comprehensive quality control instituted for Phase 2.

Hydrogen embrittlement of pipeline steels
Converting existing natural gas infrastructure for the transport of renewably produced hydrogen gas could aid in the energy transition away from fossil fuels. The Dampier-Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline (DBNGP) in Western Australia, constructed from X65 pipeline steel, is a candidate for conversion to hydrogen transmission.openaire +2 more sources
