Anticonvulsant Activity and Neurotoxicity of Piperonyl Butoxide in Mice

Epilepsia, 1984
Summary: Piperonyl butoxide, a microsomal monooxygenase inhibitor, administered intraperitoneally to mice exerts peak anti‐maximal electroshock activity and peak neurotoxicity at 5 and 7 h, respectively. The median neurotoxic dose is 1,690 mg/kg. In the maximal electroshock seizure test, the median effective dose (ED50) is 457 mg/kg and the protective

Piperonyl butoxide mutagenicity in human RSa cells

Mutation Research/Genetic Toxicology, 1995
Piperonyl butoxide (PB) is used as a pesticide synergist and food additive. Its chemically induced mutagenicity was found in cultured human RSa cells by determination of ouabain-resistant (Ouar) phenotypic mutation, with the highest frequency at the concentration of 0.2 microgram/ml.

Hepatotoxicity of piperonyl butoxide in male F344 rats

Toxicology, 1993
Male F344 rats were given 0, 0.6, 1.2 or 2.4% of piperonyl butoxide in the diet. At 1, 2, 4 or 12 weeks after the beginning of the experiment, liver and kidney weight and serum clinical parameters were determined and livers and kidneys were examined with light microscopy.

Effects of piperonyl butoxide on F1 generation mice

Toxicology Letters, 1992
Piperonyl butoxide (PB), used in Japan as a pesticide synergist and food additive, was administered to mice from 5 weeks of age in the F0 generation to 9 weeks of age in the F1 generation, in the diet at levels of 0 (control), 0.15, 0.30 and 0.60%, and some reproductive, developmental and behavioral parameters were measured.
