Alternating High‐Fat and Polysaccharide Diets Modulates Gut Phage‐Bacterial Interplay

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals how alternating high‐fat and polysaccharide diets reshape the human gut virome and enhance phage‐bacteria interactions. Using large‐scale metagenomic meta‐analysis and a time‐resolved mouse model, the authors show that diets strongly modulate phage abundance, lifestyle, and gene exchange, offering new insights into nutrition‐guided ...

The Piranha algebraic manipulator

open access: yesCoRR, 2009
In this paper we present a specialised algebraic manipulation package devoted to Celestial Mechanics. The system, called Piranha, is built on top of a generic and extensible framework, which allows to treat efficiently and in a unified way the algebraic structures most commonly encountered in Celestial Mechanics (such as multivariate polynomials and ...

Diversity Patterns of Domestic Herbivore Viruses in China Reveal Transmission Dynamics with Disease Management Implications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study performs pan‐viromic profiling of 14,529 samples from 5,710 domestic herbivores across five Chinese provinces, establishing the DhCN‐Virome (1,085,360 viral metagenomes). It reveals species/sample‐specific viromic signatures and cross‐species transmission dynamics, aiding unified disease control.

Modification of the Surface Topography and Composition of Ultrafine and Coarse Grained Titanium by Chemical Etching

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2017
In this study, we present the detailed investigation of the influence of the etching medium (acidic or basic Piranha solutions) and the etching time on the morphology and surface relief of ultrafine grained (UFG) and coarse grained (CG) titanium.

Chemical reactivity imprint lithography on graphene: Controlling the substrate influence on electron transfer reactions

open access: yes, 2012
The chemical functionalization of graphene enables control over electronic properties and sensor recognition sites. However, its study is confounded by an unusually strong influence of the underlying substrate.

Diversity of Pharmaceuticals Enhances Antibiotic Resistance in the Invertebrate Gut via Biofilm‐Mediated Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pharmaceutical diversity acts as an independent driver of antibiotic resistance in soil invertebrates. While bulk soil remains unaffected, the collembolan gut microbiome exhibits significant resistance gene enrichment under complex chemical exposure and diurnal warming.

Corals and Reef‐Dwelling Fish Regulate Carbon Storage and Cycling Processes in Coral Reef Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Coral reefs are biodiversity hotspots, yet their role in carbon storage and cycling remains poorly understood. Using field surveys and modeling in the South China Sea, we reveal the overlooked potential of carbon storage in reef ecosystems and how reef fish, corals, and surface sediment jointly shape reef carbon reservoirs.

Piranha: A GPU Platform for Secure Computation.

open access: yesIACR Cryptol. ePrint Arch., 2022
Secure multi-party computation (MPC) is an essential tool for privacy-preserving machine learning (ML). However, secure training of large-scale ML models currently requires a prohibitively long time to complete. Given that large ML inference and training tasks in the plaintext setting are significantly accelerated by Graphical Processing Units (GPUs ...
