Surface-induced charge state conversion of nitrogen-vacancy defects in nanodiamonds

open access: yes, 2010
We present a study of the charge state conversion of single nitrogen-vacancy (NV) defects hosted in nanodiamonds (NDs). We first show that the proportion of negatively-charged NV$^{-}$ defects, with respect to its neutral counterpart NV$^{0}$, decreases ...

Freeform Manufacturing of Plant‐Based Structural Colors for Scalable Photonic and Mechanochromic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A green, freeform manufacturing approach that utilizes robust aqueous two‐phase systems to create intricate and scalable photonic structures and non‐planar mechanochromic hydrogel actuators from plant‐based hydroxypropyl cellulose. This approach broadens the structural possibilities of sustainable photonic devices and mechanochromic systems, offering ...

DISPERSION AND FLOATING PERCENTAGE AS A SIMPLE INDICATOR OF THE AMOUNT OF AMORPHOUS CARBONS IN CARBON NANOTUBE ARRAYS

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Materials in Engineering, 2021
Carbon nanotubes contain impurities and deamorphization is one of the methods of their purification. In this study, for the first time, a solution of piranha with a ratio of 3:1 (30 ml sulfuric acid + 10 ml hydrogen peroxide) as well as microwave ...

Lithography-Free Route to Hierarchical Structuring of High-chi Block Copolymers on a Gradient Patterned Surface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
A chemically defined patterned surface was created via a combined process of controlled evaporative self-assembly of concentric polymer stripes and the selective surface modification of polymer brush.

Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Hafnium Nanostructures Fabricated by Physical Vapor Deposition Through a Colloidal Mask

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
We generate hafnium nanostructures by first depositing polystyrene particles of varying diameter followed by physical vapour deposition of hafnium thin films. The resultant structure shows a kill‐on‐contact effect against both Gram‐negative Escherichia coli and Gram‐positive Staphylococcus aureus.

Analytical perturbative theories of motion in highly inhomogeneous gravitational fields : Ariadna AO/1-6790/11/NL/CBI [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this report we show that modern computer performances and state-of-the-art algebraic manipulator software are sufficiently developed to carry out our generalised analytical perturbative theory.

High‐Performance, Paper‐Based Microelectronics via a Micromodular Fabrication Process

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates high‐performance silicon micromodular transistors on cellulose nanomaterial‐coated paper, with interconnects formed via e‐jet printing. Transistors exhibit excellent electrical properties and maintain performance under applied strain.

Raman spectroscopy on mechanically exfoliated pristine graphene ribbons

open access: yes, 2014
We present Raman spectroscopy measurements of non-etched graphene nanoribbons, with widths ranging from 15 to 160 nm, where the D-line intensity is strongly dependent on the polarization direction of the incident light.

Passivated SiC Surfaces for Photonic and Quantum Applications: Balancing Chemical Stability and Surface Luminescence

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Low‐temperature passivation of SiC reveals that optical surface quality and chemical stability are not directly correlated. Ar plasma‐treated and SiNx‐passivated surfaces yield the lowest photoluminescence background, whereas CF4 plasma and ALD‐grown dielectrics introduce higher emission.

Epitaxial lift-off for solid-state cavity quantum electrodynamics

open access: yes, 2015
We present a new approach to incorporate self-assembled quantum dots into a Fabry-P\'{e}rot-like microcavity. Thereby a 3$\lambda$/4 GaAs layer containing quantum dots is epitaxially removed and attached by van der Waals bonding to one of the microcavity
