Noninvasive assessment of corticosterone and triiodothyronine levels in the endangered Pyrenean Capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus aquitanicus)

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, Volume 327, Issue 2, Page 183-195, October 2025.
Feathers are useful in the study of glucocorticoid and thyroid hormones in Pyrenean Capercaillies. Samples from the Northern Pyrenees and Pre‐Pyrenees contained lower corticosterone concentrations, and a negative correlation was found between corticosterone levels and the distance from cycling trails.

The Permo‐Carboniferous Basins of the Catalan Pyrenees (NE Iberia): An Example of Interacting Tectonics and Collapse Calderas

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 44, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract The Permo‐Carboniferous terrains of the Catalan Pyrenees show evidence of extensive calc‐alkaline orogenic volcanism with predominant pyroclastic deposits of dacitic to rhyodacitic composition. These Permo‐Carboniferous basins have been interpreted as volcano‐tectonic depressions associated with a transtensional regime following the Variscan ...

Trophic Interactions Are Key to Understanding the Effects of Global Change on the Distribution and Functional Role of the Brown Bear

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 6, June 2025.

By modeling the diet and habitat of the brown bear across Europe, the research reveals that including food web relationships improves predictions of where bears live now and where they might ...

How many sequences should I track when applying the random encounter model to camera trap data?

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, Volume 324, Issue 2, Page 155-162, October 2024.
This study focused on random encounter model (REM) optimization for camera trap data. We concluded that reconstructing the trajectory of around 100 animals crossing the field of view of the camera returned equivalent precision to the one obtained by tracking a considerably higher number of sequences. Survey periods of ca. 2 months are also recommended.
