Piscirickettsia salmonis Cryptic Plasmids: Source of Mobile DNA and Virulence Factors [PDF]
Four large cryptic plasmids were identified in the salmon pathogen Piscirickettsia salmonis reference strain LF-89. These plasmids appeared highly novel, with less than 7% nucleotidic identity to the nr plasmid database. Plasmid copy number analysis revealed that they are harbored in chromosome equivalent ratios.

Abstract Outbreaks of bacterial infections in aquaculture have emerged as significant threats to the sustainable production of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) worldwide. Understanding the dynamics of these outbreaks and the bacteria involved is crucial for implementing effective management strategies. This comprehensive review presents an update on

ABSTRACT Atlantic salmon farming is faced with numerous environmental and production‐related challenges affecting fish health and welfare, globally and in Norway. An animal's requirement for a nutrient is the sum of the required supply of available nutrients for maintenance, growth, reproduction, health, and disease resistance.

ABSTRACT Salovirus is a genus within the family Caliciviridae, which contains a single member species, Salovirus nordlandense, also known as Atlantic salmon calicivirus (ASCV). While previous work has shown that ASCV can replicate in fish cell lines and establish systemic infection in vivo, its exact role in disease remains unclear and very little is ...

ABSTRACT Pathogens play a key role in individual function and the dynamics of wild populations, but the link between pathogens and individual performance has rarely been investigated in the wild. Migrating salmonids offer an ideal study system to investigate how infection with pathogens affects performance given that climate change and fish farming ...

Hindcasting Farmed Salmon Mortality to Improve Future Health and Production Outcomes
ABSTRACT Intracellular, free‐floating and biofilm‐forming bacterial pathogens have been implicated in summer mortality of farmed Chinook salmon, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha, in New Zealand. A mortality event in 2022 in the Pelorus Sound, Marlborough, was linked to high water temperatures (> 18°C), and bacterial skin disease associated with Piscirickettsia

Isolates of Piscirickettsia salmonis from Scotland and Ireland show evidence of clonal diversity
Salmonid rickettsial septicemia, caused by Piscirickettsia salmonis, causes major mortalities in Chilean salmonid aquaculture and is an increasing problem in Atlantic salmon in Ireland and Scotland.

Pathogen and Gene Expression Profiles of Atlantic Salmon From an Endangered Population
ABSTRACT The role of pathogens in impacting the behaviour and fate of salmonids has been studied extensively for some selected pathogens such as sea lice. However, the whole pathobiome of the fish are seldom considered and may confound and influence the study species in situ.
