High Mach number limit of one-dimensional piston problem for non-isentropic compressible Euler equations: Polytropic gas

open access: yes, 2019
We study high Mach number limit of the one dimensional piston problem for the full compressible Euler equations of polytropic gas, for both cases that the piston rushes into or recedes from the uniform still gas, at a constant speed.

Scalable Wheat Bran‐Algae Composites for Edible Electronics with Spray‐Coated Food‐Grade Conductive Inks

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A fully edible wheat bran–algae substrate is fabricated through scalable mould‐compression and spray‐coating, enabling robust, food‐grade platforms for sustainable electronics. A chitosan barrier improves water resistance and ink compatibility, while activated‐carbon conductive films form uniform electrodes with Ohmic behaviour.

Operando X‐Ray Diffraction and Total Scattering Characterization of Battery Materials: Not Just a Pretty Picture

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review focuses on operando studies of battery materials by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and total X‐ray scattering (TXS). This work highlights potential pitfalls and identify best‐practices for operando studies and reviews some unusual experiments to illustrate how these methods can be applied beyond the evaluation of the early‐stage cycling mechanisms

Thermal and Structural Analysis of Gasoline Engine Piston at Different Boost Pressures

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
The piston, as one of the main components of the crankshaft mechanism, is subjected to significant mechanical and thermal loads. The mechanical properties of the alloy from which it is made and the technology of its manufacture are related to the maximum

Autonomous Machine Learning‐Based Classification and Arrangement of Submillimeter Objects Using a Capillary Force Gripper

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This study presents an automated system integrating a capillary force gripper and machine learning‐based object detection for sorting and placing submillimeter objects. The system achieved stable and simultaneous manipulation of four object types, with an average task time of 86.0 seconds and a positioning error of 157 ± 84 µm, highlighting its ...

Device induces lungs to maintain known constant pressure [PDF]

open access: yes, 1964
This device requires the use of thoracic muscles to maintain prescribed air pressure in the lungs for brief periods. It consists of a clear plastic hollow cylinder fitted with a mouthpiece, a spring-loaded piston, and a small vent for escaping air when ...

On the Second Law of thermodynamics and the piston problem

open access: yes, 2003
The piston problem is investigated in the case where the length of the cylinder is infinite (on both sides) and the ratio $m/M$ is a very small parameter, where $m$ is the mass of one particle of the gaz and $M$ is the mass of the piston.
