Application Areas of Ionic Hydraulic Fluids

open access: yesChemical Engineering &Technology, Volume 46, Issue 1, Page 14-20, January 2023., 2023
Ionic liquids as high‐tech technical fluids have also made their way into the field of hydraulic drives. With excellent lubricating properties, a wide temperature range, low pour point and vapor pressure, as well as nonflammability and environmental suitability, problems with only one type of fluid, namely, an ionic hydraulic fluid, instead of using ...

Wear assessment model for cylinder liner of internal combustion engine under fuzzy uncertainty

open access: yesMechanics & Industry, 2021
The wear of the piston ring-cylinder system is inevitable in the operation of the internal combustion engines (ICEs). If wear exceeds the maximum, the piston ring-cylinder system will be failure.

Extreme High‐Speed Laser Material Application‐Coated Carbide‐Reinforced Control Plates and Conventional Lead‐Based Plates in Axial Piston Machines

open access: yesChemical Engineering &Technology, Volume 46, Issue 1, Page 110-117, January 2023., 2023
In hydraulic axial piston pumps, conventionally leaded brass is used right against steel. In order to renounce lead and find a lead‐free alternative, high‐speed laser material deposition is employed to apply a carbide‐reinforced anti‐wear coating. Based on the experiences of prior tests, it demonstrates that this coating also works in a state‐of‐the ...

Wear Behavior of CuSn Coated Piston Ring Sliding against Nodular Cast Iron Cylinder Liner under Heavy-Duty Conditions

open access: yesMetals, 2019
In order to investigate the friction and wear behavior between the nodular cast iron cylinder liner (Fe) and CuSn coated piston ring under heavy-duty conditions, piston rings with chromium(Cr) coating and CuSn-Cr coating were tested using the piston ring

Tribological performance of nano-diamond composites-dispersed lubricants on commercial cylinder liner mating with CrN piston ring

open access: yes, 2020
This work investigated the effect of nanodiamond (ND) additives on the tribological properties of CrN-coated piston ring mating with the chromium-plated and BP alloy iron cylinder liners, which is one of the key friction pairs in the internal combustion ...

Experiments and Computational Fluid Dynamics on Vapor and Gas Cavitation for Oil Hydraulics

open access: yesChemical Engineering &Technology, Volume 46, Issue 1, Page 147-157, January 2023., 2023
A computational fluid dynamics cavitation model for vapor and gas cavitation in hydraulic oil is presented, parameterized, and validated. For numerous operating points, cavitation in a realistic valve geometry is visualized using shadowgraphs and high‐speed cameras. Vapor and gas cavitation are experimentally separated by complete degassing of the oil.

Development of Hydrogen-Free Diamond-Like Carbon Coating for Piston Rings

open access: yesTribology Online, 2017
The first piston ring application of a hydrogen-free diamond-like carbon (H-free DLC) coating to a mass-production gasoline engine reduces friction. It is found that the friction reduction effect between the cylinder bore and piston is 18%.

Casimir interaction: pistons and cavity [PDF]

open access: yesJ.Phys.A41:164007,2008, 2007
The energy of a perfectly conducting rectangular cavity is studied by making use of pistons' interactions. The exact solution for a 3D perfectly conducting piston with an arbitrary cross section is being discussed.

Energy and velocity of a forming vortex ring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
It is known that vortex rings formed by large stroke ratios (in a piston/cylinder arrangement) pinch off from their generating jets at a fairly constant universal time scale.

Possibility of Marine Low-Speed Engine Piston Ring Wear Prediction during Real Operational Conditions

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
A long-stroke, low-speed marine engine is used as the prime mover of a ship. During the operation of such engines, the excessive wear of the cylinder liners and piston rings frequently occurs.
