Delimitation of the final pit of open-pit mines using the maximum flow Pseudoflow method [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mining and Geo-Engineering
The primary aim of this study was to define the final pit boundaries utilizing the maximum flow Pseudoflow method in an open-pit mining context. Our methodology encompassed exploratory data analysis (EDA), establishing geomechanical and economic factors,

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Research on characteristics and prediction of vehicle speed in open-pit mines based on spatiotemporal and meteorological factors

open access: yesGong-kuang zidonghua
Existing prediction models for vehicle speed in open-pit mines do not fully consider the influence of meteorological factors on operating speed. The data sample sets are insufficient to train or fine-tune deep learning models.

Pit lakes are a global legacy of mining: an integrated approach to achieving sustainable ecosystems and value for communities

open access: yes, 2016
The impact of large-scale mining on the landscape is a permanent legacy of industrialisation and unique to the Anthropocene. Thousands of lakes created from the flooding of abandoned open-cut mines occur across every inhabited continent and many of these

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Pit-to-crack mechanisms of 316LN stainless steel reinforcement in alkaline solution influenced by strain induced martensite

open access: yes, 2023
The pit-to-crack transition of AISI 316LN stainless steel reinforcement exposed to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in chlorides contaminated alkaline environment, was studied by a combination of slow strain rate testing (SSRT) and electrochemical ...

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.
