Selfing facilitates reproductive isolation among three sympatric species of Pitcairnia (Bromeliaceae)

Plant Systematics and Evolution, 2002
The reproductive biology of three sympatric species Pitcairnia flammea, P. corcovadensis and P. albiflos (Bromeliaceae) was studied on Corcovado Mountain in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Controlled pollination experiments were also conducted using plants transplanted to a greenhouse.

Variation and Taxonomy of Pitcairnia (Bromeliaceae) in Jamaica

Brittonia, 1969
A single species ofPitcairnia (P. bromeliifolia) comprising three well-defined and geographically discontinuous biotypes, occurs in Jamaica. Extensive field studies and transplant experiments have made possible an understanding of the ecology, variation, and distribution of natural populations.

A multivariate analysis of the Pitcairnia palmeri group (Bromeliaceae: Pitcairnioideae)

Phytotaxa, 2018
A multivariate analysis of the Pitcairnia palmeri group are presented. Principal Components and Cluster analyses were performed in order to have more accurate information to delimit the species. The analyses showed that the specimens referred to Pitcairnia palmeri var. longebracteata are clearly delimited, while those identified as P.

Reproductive biology and natural hybridization between two endemic species of Pitcairnia (Bromeliaceae)

American Journal of Botany, 2001
We investigated pollination biology and breeding systems in hybridizing populations of Pitcairnia albiflos and P. staminea; both species are endemic to rocky outcrops at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. These species are morphologically distinct and easily recognized by floral color: white in P. albiflos and red in P. staminea.
