Numerical Investigations into the Nonsinusoidal Motion Effects on Aerodynamics of a Pitching Airfoil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The growing applications of wind turbine impose the need for accurate flow solutions of airfoils with different pitching motions. In this paper an adjustable parameter K is employed to realize various nonsinusoidal motions and the effects of ...

Micromachined Double‐Membrane Mechanically Tunable Metamaterial for Thermal Infrared Filtering

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2025.
Herein, a mechanically tunable double‐layer plasmonic metamaterial leveraging the extraordinary optical transmission effect observed in subwavelength arrays of openings within thin metal layers is presented. The concept is experimentally validated by integrating the proposed metamaterial structure into an electrostatic parallel‐plate actuator to create

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Molecular Appendix Adjusted Architectural Propagations of Red‐Light Controlled Macroscopic Photoactuating Performances

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic chloroazobenzenes, bearing different amino acids as end groups alanine, phenylalanine, and valine, exhibit excellent photoisomerizations. Varying structures of three amino acid groups participate in supramolecular formations and therefore photoinduced morphological transformations via adjusting intermolecular interactions. These interaction

Aerodynamics of a pitching and heaving airfoil in ground effect

open access: yes, 2016
The aerodynamics of an inverted airfoil close to a moving ground oscillating periodically in pure pitching motion and in combined pitching-heaving motion has been studied numerically.

Nonlocomotory Robotic Strategies for Dynamic Rotation Control in Terrestrial Robots: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Terrestrial robots increasingly require rapid body rotation to maintain stability and agility in complex environments. This review shows nonlocomotory rotational control strategies that operate without ground contact, including reaction wheels, tails, bars, limbs, and thrusters.

RESEARCH ON NONLINEAR DYNAMICS OF MARINE ROTOR-BEARING SYSTEM UNDER COMPLEX TRANSPORT MOTIONS

open access: yesJixie qiangdu
In order to reveal the nonlinear dynamics behavior of the marine rotor-bearing system under complex transport motions (heaving, swaying, yawing and pitching), the dynamical model of the rotor-bearing system with the nonlinear oil film force and transport
