Analysis of pitting corrosion rate

Russian Journal of Electrochemistry, 2008
A method for estimating pitting corrosion rate is proposed. The method is based on the analysis of anodic and cathodic voltammograms that were measured on the specimens of two types: on the test specimen coated with an oxide film, which formed under the open-circuit conditions, and on the specimen, whose surface was totally activated with aggressive ...

Mechanisms of Pitting Corrosion

2011
Pitting corrosion occurs at passivated metal surfaces during the access of so-called aggressive anions. Halides very effectively attack passivating thin oxide layers, leading to an intense localized dissolution of the metal surface, which is otherwise protected by the passive layer against general dissolution. Chlorides cause the most serious problems

Modeling Corrosion and Pitting Problems

2013
Given the material properties of typical aircraft structures and environmental conditions experienced over a service life, corrosion in aircraft structures is a major issue. For the United States Air Force alone, the total annual cost for corrosion management is on the order of a billion dollars.

User’S View of Pitting Corrosion

CORROSION 2004, 2004
Abstract Pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN or PRE) has been introduced by suppliers as a tool for comparing stainless steels for their relative resistance to pitting. The user of stainless steels has only a very limited knowledge for PREN.
