The pitting corrosion of copper
Journal AWWA, 1994To solve or prevent copper pitting problems, it is first necessary to achieve a clearer understanding of copper corrosion theory, parts of which are currently not supported by practical experience. Some current theories of copper pitting are contradicted by practical experience.

A parametric study on effects of pitting corrosion on steel plate's ultimate strength
, 2020Pitting corrosion is commonly found in hull plates, which significantly reduces the structural ultimate strength. In order to address this issue, this work investigates the influence factors of pitting corrosion to the ultimate compressive bearing ...

Study of pitting corrosion inhibition effect on aluminum alloy in seawater by biomineralized film.
Bioelectrochemistry, 2019Metallic materials can be easily corroded in marine environments, in which pitting corrosion is very common. In this study, we investigated the effect of Bacillus subtilis, isolated from the South China Sea on the corrosion behavior of 2A14 aluminum ...

This review describes the experiments performed during the last few decades which enhance knowledge of the pitting of aluminum. Specifically, metastable and stable pits, pit chemistry and the effect of intermetallics on pitting are discussed. The properties of metastable alloys and inhibition of Al are also discussed.

AbstractCorrosion of metals and alloys by pitting constitutes one of the very major failure mechanisms. Pits cause failure through perforation and engender stress corrosion cracks. Pitting is a failure mode common to very many metals. It is generally associated with particular anions in solution, notably the chloride ion. The origin of pitting is small.
