Pituitary Neuroendocrine Neoplasms

2020
Pituitary neuroendocrine tumors are a complex family of lesions that show a spectrum of differentiation based on their developmental regulatory transcription factors and hormone expression. They can cause a number of clinical syndromes such as acromegaly, Cushing disease, hyperprolactinemia, and hyperthyroidism or they may be clinically silent.

Sphenoid Mucocele—An Unusual Mimic of Pituitary Neoplasm

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1967

Primary lymphoma of pituitary gland: A neoplasm of acquired malt?

Endocrine Pathology, 1997
A 66-yr-old man presented with presyncopal episodes, dizziness, anorexia, nausea, and weight loss and was noted to have low blood pressure with a postural drop and sparse eyebrows. Laboratory investigations revealed evidence of hypopituitarism. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a non-enhancing mass arising from the adenohypophysis.

The Significance of the Angiographic Demonstration of Tumour Vessels in Pituitary Neoplasms

Pituitary Carcinoma of Pars Distalis as a Common Neoplasm in Fischer-344 Rats [PDF]

open access: possibleToxicologic Pathology, 1993
The incidence of invasive spontaneous pituitary carcinomas in Fischer-344 rats were studied. The pituitaries were examined histopathologically together with surrounding tissues including sphenoid bone. The incidence of carcinoma was higher than that previously reported in Fischer-344 rats.

Small Pituitary Fossa in Cushing's Syndrome Due to Adrenal Neoplasm

New England Journal of Medicine, 1963
IN the differentiation of adrenal hyperplasia from adrenal neoplasm as the cause of Cushing's syndrome the size of the pituitary fossa may be a useful diagnostic aid. Previous studies have indicated that the sella is enlarged in approximately 10 to 15 per cent of patients in whom Cushing's syndrome resulted from adrenal hyperplasia.1 , 2 In the case ...

MEDICAL TREATMENT OF PITUITARY NEOPLASM

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1925
The frequency of unsuccessful operations on tumors of the hypophysis has led us to search for a method of approach that is less hazardous. Two fields seemed open—that of glandular therapy and that of radiotherapy. The average benign enlargement of the pituitary gland will proceed along a certain stereotyped course.

Increased Serum Prolactin Pituitary Reserve in Patients with Prostatic Neoplasms

British Journal of Urology, 1979
Prolactin (PRL) pituitary reserve was measured in 8 patients with prostatic adenoma and 11 patients with prostatic carcinoma. The PRL reserve was significantly higher in these patients compared to an age-matched control group of 6 subjects. A possible role for PRL-inhibiting drugs in the management of oestrogen-resistant carcinomas of the prostate is ...

[Somatostatin analogs in the clinical management of pituitary neoplasms].

Minerva endocrinologica, 2001
The medical approach to patients with secreting or clinically non-functioning pituitary adenoma as made considerable progress thanks to the use of new somatostatin analogs. They were first used to treat acromegaly in the mid 1980s and numerous studies have shown a reduction in GH concentration in over 90% of acromegalic patients.
