Vitiligo and pityriasis versicolor
Practice Nursing, 2003Vitiligo is marked by an acquired destruction of melanocytes, causing areas of skin depigmentation (Du Vivier, 2002). Pityriasis versicolor may also present with depigmented areas of skin but is caused by a yeast. Accurate differential diagnosis of these two conditions is important (Table 1).

Tissue Antigens, 1984The distribution of 30 HLA antigens was studied in 48 patients with Pityriasis Versicolor and 134 controls. No significant deviations were found in the patient group after correction for the number of antigens tested.

Itraconazole therapy in pityriasis versicolor
British Journal of Dermatology, 1986The efficacy of itraconazole was assessed in an open trial in 30 patients with disseminated lesions of pityriasis versicolor confirmed by direct microscopy. The patients were allocated randomly to one of two treatment regimens, 200 mg once daily for 5 days or 100 mg once daily for 10 days.

Mycoses, 2004SummaryWe describe a 53‐year‐old woman with pityriasis versicolor together with erythrasma that was localized in the axillary and genitocrural region. The coexistence of these infections is rare and we propose the use of methylene blue stain for the diagnosis of both diseases.

Treatment of Pityriasis Versicolor with Ketoconazole
Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1980Eighty-two patients with pityriasis versicolor were treated orally with ketoconazole in tablet form (200 mg). The tablets were taken at least 90 min before a meal, and patients who received only one tablet daily were told to refrain from bathing except immediately before ingestion of the drug and only once a day.
