Predicting the Impact of Urban Development on Locals’ Place Attachment in Peripheral Settlements [PDF]
As urban development reshapes cityscapes, residents in peripheral settlements face challenges in maintaining Place Attachment. This study examines the potential disruption of Place Dependence, Place Identity, and Place Affection—core components of Place ...

What makes a place? Building bespoke place dependent object detectors
This paper is about enabling robots to improve their perceptual performance through repeated use in their operating environment, creating local expert detectors fitted to the places through which a robot moves. We leverage the concept of ‘experiences’ in visual perception for robotics, accounting for bias in the data a robot sees by fitting object ...

Invariant measures for place-dependent idempotent iterated function systems
We study the set of invariant idempotent probabilities for place dependent idempotent iterated function systems defined in compact metric spaces. Using well-known ideas from dynamical systems, such as the Mañé potential and the Aubry set, we provide a complete characterization of the densities of such idempotent probabilities.

Behavior-based dependency networks between places shape urban economic resilience
Abstract Urban economic resilience is intricately linked to how disruptions caused by pandemics, disasters, and technological shifts ripple through businesses and urban amenities. Disruptions, such as closures of non-essential businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, not only affect those places directly but also influence how people live and ...

Iterated function systems with continuous place dependent probabilities.
Summary: We study the asymptotic behaviour of iterated function systems built of a finite number of contractions and positive, continuous, place dependent probabilities. We prove that these systems have some special property which is called quasistability. We also establish the existence of an invariant distribution for such systems.
