Antithrombin: Deficiency, Diversity, and the Future of Diagnostics

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Our healthcare system provides reactive sick‐care, treating patients after symptoms have appeared by prescription of generic and often suboptimal therapy. This strategy brings along high costs and high pressure which is not sustainable.

Impact of Nutrition on Sphingolipid‐Regulated Physiology: A Review

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, EarlyView.
Sphingolipids (SLs) play a role in multiple, if not all physiological processes. This review summarizes the current knowledge on SLs and their role in (patho‐) physiological processes with special regard to dietary and transgenerational effects. Image was created with BioRender.com.

Tolerância da placenta à parada circulatória umbilical normotérmica Tolerance of placenta to normothermic umbilical circulatory arrest

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery, 1992
O aumento da resistência vascular placentáriae distúrbios de trocas gasosas freqüentemente ocorrem após a circulação extracorpórea (CEC) fetal. A utilização de um circuito convencional de CEC que exclua a placenta da circulação através do clampeamento ...

Design, Synthesis, Biological Evaluation, and In Silico Study of Tetrahydropyridines as Prospective Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
This work investigates the selective inhibition of MAO enzymes by varying the substitution of electron‐withdrawing and donating groups on the phenyl rings of tetrahydropyridines (4 a–4 o). Compounds 4 l and 4 n exhibit promising IC50 values of 0.40±0.05 and 1.01±0.03 μM against MAO‐A and MAO‐B, respectively.

Maternal–foetal immune rejection: parallels between placental CHI and allograft rejection†

open access: yesThe Journal of Pathology, EarlyView.
Abstract Chronic histiocytic intervillositis (CHI) is a rare placental inflammatory lesion increasingly viewed through maternal–foetal immune rejection. In this invited commentary, we discuss how a recent study bolsters the paradigm that CHI represents maternal immune rejection of the semi‐allogeneic foetus, analogous to antibody‐mediated rejection in ...

Hemophilia A: An Ideal Disease for Prenatal Therapy

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hemophilia A (HA) is the most common inherited coagulation defect. Current state‐of‐the‐art treatment consists of frequent administration of prophylactic infusions of coagulation factor VIII (FVIII) protein or bispecific antibodies that replace the cofactor function of FVIIIa to maintain hemostasis. However, these treatments are far from ideal,

Diagnosis and Management of Prenatal Hereditary Pyropoikilocytosis

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hereditary pyropoikilocytosis (HPP) is a severe hemolytic anemia caused by variants in SPTA1, SPTB, and EPB41. These weaken horizontal interactions in the erythrocyte cytoskeleton, causing membrane fragmentation and splenic sequestration. It will readily cause fetal anemia and often hydrops fetalis. Prenatal diagnosis requires first ruling out
