Theoretical Models of Decompression-Induced Plagioclase Nucleation and Growth in Hydrated Silica-Rich Melts

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2020
Magma ascending from the storage region toward the surface may crystallize small and rapidly-grown crystals, designated as microlites. Upon decompression, the rapid changes of the microlite textures, such as number density and crystal size, directly ...

Experimental constraints on amphibole stability in primitive alkaline and calc-alkaline magmas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Equilibrium crystallization experiments were carried out on two primitive basaltic rocks (APR16: Na2O+K2O=4.40 wt%; CM42: Na2O+K2O=2.59 wt%) with the aim to investigate the amphibole stability in the differentiation processes at deep crustal level, of

Study on the composite fracture characteristics of filling and reinforcing cracked rock mass after high temperature damage

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Cement infill shares compressive and shear stresses during loading, while interfacial friction hinders crack propagation and reduces stress concentration, improving the rock's load‐bearing capacity. Failure modes vary with crack inclination. Unfilled specimens show four modes.

K-Ar geochronology for hydrothermal K-feldspar within plagioclase in a granitic pluton: constraints on timing and thermal condition for hydrothermal alteration

open access: yesHeliyon, 2021
This study presents the K-Ar geochronology for hydrothermal K-feldspar in plagioclase alteration, including methodology and application to the Toki granite, in central Japan.

Garnet–monazite rare earth element relationships in sub-solidus metapelites: a case study from Bhutan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A key aim of modern metamorphic geochronology is to constrain precise and accurate rates and timescales of tectonic processes. One promising approach in amphibolite and granulite-facies rocks links the geochronological information recorded in zoned ...

Research progress and current status of dynamic wave propagation characteristics in rock mass: A review

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This review elucidates the velocity–dispersion–attenuation coupling mechanisms of wave propagation in rock masses, compares six representative models, and reveals how pressure, temperature, mineral composition, and anisotropy jointly control dynamic responses in complex geological media.

Mechanisms of Aqueous Fluid Infiltration and Redistribution in a Lower‐Crustal Pseudotachylyte‐Bearing Fault

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
Coseismic fracturing in the strong, dry, and metastable plagioclase‐rich lower‐crust is an effective mechanism for creating pathways for fluids to infiltrate the host rock, kick‐start metamorphism, and potentially lead to rheological weakening.

Paragenetic relations of minerals in the Snezhnoye ruby deposit, Muzkol-Rangkul anticlinorium, Central Pamir

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений: Геология и разведка
Background. The mineral association of ruby in the Snezhnoye deposit is represented by 7 rock-forming and 19 accessory minerals. Here, all minerals vary in their composition due to isomorphism.

Oriented Magnetite Inclusions in Plagioclase: Implications for the Anisotropy of Magnetic Remanence

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2022
Micron to sub‐micron sized ferromagnetic inclusions in rock forming silicate minerals may give rise to particularly stable remanent magnetizations. When a population of inclusions have a preferred crystallographic or shape orientation in a rock, the ...

Thermal‐induced fracture evolution and acoustic signature of Beishan granite: Insights into tensile strength of barrier system for high‐level radioactive waste disposal

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The tensile strength of granite, a proposed host for nuclear waste, degrades severely above 400°C. We link this to specific microcracking patterns captured by acoustic emission, establishing a scientific basis for assessing repository safety under thermal load.
