BIPARTITE GRAPHS AND QUASIPOSITIVE SURFACES

open access: yes, 2017
We present a simple combinatorial model for quasipositive surfaces and positive braids, based on embedded bipartite graphs. As a first application, we extend the well-known duality on standard diagrams of torus links to twisted torus links.

Parity Quantum Computing as yz-Plane Measurement-Based Quantum Computing

open access: yes
We show that universal parity quantum computing employing a recently introduced constant depth decoding procedure is equivalent to measurement-based quantum computation (MBQC) on a bipartite graph using only ⁢-plane measurements. We further show that any

Beautiful and Useful: Species Richness and the Ecosystem Services of Allotment Gardens in Berlin, Germany

open access: yesPlant-Environment Interactions, Volume 7, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Intensive agriculture and urbanization have led to habitat degradation and fragmentation, reducing plant diversity and subsequently reducing pollinator abundance and richness. This paper investigates the conservation potential of green infrastructure in allotment gardens, which are a common form of urban land use.

Modularity‐Preserving Hamiltonian Compression for QAOA‐Based Community Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, Volume 9, Issue 6, June 2026.
This work explores several quantum methods to community detection in networks by simplifying modularity‐based Hamiltonians. By reducing circuit complexity through sparsification, spectral projection, and penalty techniques, the methods retain key structural information while improving efficiency.

iLDA‐SGCN: Identifying Associations Between Age‐Related Diseases and Long Non‐Coding RNAs Using Dual Graph Convolutional Networks

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 6, June 2026.
iLDA‐SGCN integrates singular value decomposition and dual graph convolutional networks to predict lncRNA‐disease associations. It achieves superior performance on two benchmark datasets and identifies 33 candidate lncRNAs across 8 age‐related diseases.

Post‐transcriptional regulatory networks: The dynamic interplay of RNA‐binding proteins

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 12, Page 3423-3441, June 2026.
Post‐transcriptional gene expression regulation is controlled by RNA‐binding proteins (RBPs), which influence many processes including splicing, localization, translation, and decay. Rather than acting alone, RBPs bind RNAs combinatorially, forming complex, context‐dependent regulatory networks.

Organelle genome evolution in the early‐diverging brown algal lineage, Ishigeales

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, Volume 62, Issue 3, Page 1090-1107, June 2026.
Abstract The order Ishigeales is an early‐diverging lineage of brown algae that exhibits remarkable morphological diversity ranging from simple filamentous forms to robust terete and foliose thalli, which may reflect complex evolutionary histories in their organelle genomes.

Thurston norm for coherent right‐angled Artin groups via L2$L^2$‐invariants

open access: yesJournal of Topology, Volume 19, Issue 2, June 2026.
Abstract We define a new notion of splitting complexity for a group G$G$ along a non‐trivial integral character ϕ∈H1(G;Z)$\phi \in H^1(G; \mathbb {Z})$. If G$G$ is a one‐ended coherent right‐angled Artin group, we show that the splitting complexity along an epimorphism ϕ:G→Z$\phi \colon G \rightarrow \mathbb {Z}$ equals the L2$L^2$‐Euler characteristic

Evaluating a weighted graph polynomial for graphs of bounded tree-width

open access: yes, 2009
We show that for any $k$ there is a polynomial time algorithm to evaluate the weighted graph polynomial $U$ of any graph with tree-width at most $k$ at any point.
