Thermal Inertia Controls on Titan’s Surface Temperature and Planetary Boundary Layer Structure

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Understanding Titan’s planetary boundary layer (PBL)—the lowest region of the atmosphere influenced by surface conditions—remains challenging due to Titan’s thick atmosphere and limited observations.

New perspectives on the Northern Hemisphere winter storm tracks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The aim of this paper is to explore the use of both an Eulerian and system-centered method of storm track diagnosis applied to a wide range of meteorological fields at multiple levels to provide a range of perspectives on the Northern Hemisphere ...

Feasibility and Limitations of the Advanced Replica Process for Bioactive Glasses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Periodic 3D‐printed Kelvin‐cell templates enable a controlled advanced replica process for fabricating highly porous glass lattices. Across P45K9, 45S5, and 13–93, material‐dependent differences in coating, burnout, and shrinkage lead to distinct strut morphologies, while comparable final porosities of 83%–88% are retained.

Advances in Sustainable and Wearable Textile Based Soft Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Review examines advances in wearable textile‐based soft robotics, focusing on sustainable materials, integrated sensing, and scalable actuation. It discusses manufacturing and system integration across healthcare, assistive robotics, prosthetics, and human–machine interfaces, and highlights key challenges in circular design, including life‐cycle ...

On Dust Devil Diameters, Occurrence Rates, and Activity

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
As a phenomenon that occurs on Earth and on Mars, the diameter of a dust devil helps determine the amount of dust the devil injects into the atmosphere for both worlds—for a given dust flux density (dust lifted per area per time), a wider devil will lift

An empirical method to correct for temperature-dependent variations in the overlap function of CHM15k ceilometers [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2016
Imperfections in a lidar's overlap function lead to artefacts in the background, range and overlap-corrected lidar signals. These artefacts can erroneously be interpreted as an aerosol gradient or, in extreme cases, as a cloud base leading to false cloud

Modifications to a turbulent inflow generation method for boundary-layer flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
NUMERICAL simulations of turbulent boundary layers require inflow/outflow boundary conditions. Downstream flow is particularly sensitive to the inlet boundary condition; it is necessary to provide a realistic, coherent series of time-varying velocity ...

Functionalizing Micro‐to‐Mesoscopic Electrode Architectures for Regulating Electron Transfer Behaviors in Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A systematic review is conducted to assess the influence of electrode architecture across micro‐ to mesoscopic length scales on electron‐transfer pathways in electrocatalysis. We discuss the structure‐activity relationships in electrocatalytic applications, including resource recovery and environmental remediation, and provide cost‐effective, efficient

A Decrease in Slope Angles on Insolated Martian Slopes: Ground-based Experiments

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Dry granular flow on Martian slopes can benefit from subsoil Knudsen compressors induced by thermal creep gas flow. The required temperature gradient for this natural compressor can be set by insolation.
